Mel, I have no positive answer as to why she is missing the hair below her ears. The previous owner thinks it is due to stress. She has been confined to a room in the basement for the past 2 years because she was terrified of their dog. And by the size of her, I'm sure she didn't get much exercise, the poor thing. She is only 5 and is just huge. We've got a lot of work ahead of us to get her slimmed down, but hopefully as she & my cats get more accustomed to each other, they will help her get a little more exercise.

Now see, I had no idea that was your new cat (CRS). I hope they all get along as well as ours are. The geriatric crowd spends most of their time on my bed, the kittens run the rest of the house. Occasionally the two generations may cross paths, but it is usually nothing more than a sniff or two and then on your way.

I have been giving the two older cats a daily dose of raw chicken hearts, and I think it is doing them some good. Grover is just about back to his old self, and his coat looks really good! Spice is still scrawny, but she seems a bit perkier. They both trade off on the heating pad too. I'll have the whole story next week when the blood work is done.

I am really tired of this cold. Is the sap running yet? Is anybody out checking their trees yet??? I wonder what the latest date is for the beginning of the syrup season...

Anyway, nothing going on here. I'll be happy when I no longer have to keep the tap running. I hate the thought of wasting all that water......

warm days , cold nights, then the sap will run.. I don't think our "warm" days are warm enough yet..

That's it... Night All!

Sap? - We have not checked our trees yet, just too cold and not warm enough during the day. I did notice that the dogwood is reddening up out in the fields, probably more due to the amount of sun more than the temperature.

Hot tub fire - looks like Allstate is going to cover everything to do with the hot tub fire. Now we just have to get estimates so we have a better idea of what it will take to fix. I guess we have 100% replacement, except for the $5K deductible.

Kristip - How's those chicks doing this morning?

I better get off this computer and get ready for work.

Have a good day everyone!

Good morning... guess I will be on and off all day since I am exhausted and going back to bed after I get Morgan on the bus and Andrew either resting or in a movie...
2 chicks out... not much from the other eggs... looks like one may have a tiny pip but not sure. this is the craziest hatch ever...and of course when we did a science project... I guess I am proving the science point here...we can incubate and hatch chicks, under the right conditions, but probably not better than a momma hen could do it.
was hoping for a bunch of new chicks to replace some old gals out there... and get some nice breeders for 4h... sigh...maybe next time.
wierd hatch...

Jim hopefully the pain is going down for you
Cindy...at least Jon keeps in touch and keeps you posted where he is headed. I know you miss him but it is something!
And BL4.. that is a pretty but chunky kitty! Morgan saw the pic and said she looked squishable. my little animal lover

good morning,,

Kristi, look at the bright side of it.. with only two chicks, you will not have to change their litter as often, seeing as you will be keeping them in the house.. you will have plenty of time for a later hatch to replace the rest ..

these winter hatches never seem to go so well,, I think it is because the roosters are not too interested in doing their job.. they seem to do better once they feel the sun on their backs..

thanks, I have pretty good control of the pain.. two extra strength Tylenol every 4 hours is doing the job.. I actually slept until 6 AM today.. sure felt good under those covers, too.. minus 10 F here,, We do not put heat in our bedroom.. we like it cold with a nice thick comforter ..

when I was a kid I slept over at my BFF house a lot.. there were mornings when there would be snow on the bedroom floor.. we covered up with feather ticks.. IDK what other people called them.
basically thick quilts with lots and lots of feathers in them..

1876, glad you are well covered for that fire.. the insurance company should deduct your share for you having all that fire protection type siding .. or they could be replacing your whole house..

I guess I will sit back and wait for people to wake up and join us here..

I too have a 7 year old home today lets just say "Expressing" from both ends.

I kinda wish he felt a little sicker so he would rest some.

It amazes me me how fast everyone can clear MY daily to do list when somebody has to stay home with the "Expressor"

Jim, I have not read the phrase 'feather ticks' since I read Laura Ingalls' books. You gave me a chuckle.

I do realize that we need warm days and cold nights for sap making (see above post) I was wondering if that nice warm day we had got the trees going a bit.

Sorry about the sickos...... I am happy to be at the stage with kids where they do not get sick very often.

Time for cup #2....
