Afternoon All....no sunshine here yet. I sure hope it pops out today to melt some white cold stuff.

Yep, we had a great time yesterday. Woulda been even more fun if it woulda been nice enough to sit outside in the lawn chairs.

Our provider musta been working on something...just got on the home page now. You gotta love frontier....

Hamburgers on the grill tonight...I'm just starving for one or two with grilled onions.

Later....bigz

good spring afternoon,

nice sunshine here,, a lot of the snow finally slid off the nort side of the house roof..

I let the new puppy loose for about an hour this morning.. It would not have been that long, but he would not come close enough for me to catch him,, He likes his freedom , for sure.. One good thing came of it.. he completely ignored the poultry ..

..... ..... .. rainbow .. ........

has anyone here ever heard of a breed of chicken called Rainbow ?

Cookie is doing well here too.

I introduced her to the dogs yesterday. She growled and snarled at Buddy (male lab) and would have nothing to do with him. She tolerated Casha and that suited Casha just fine. I was worried she would pounce on Casha and hurt her. Cookie is larger than Casha and out weighs her. I will start bringing Casha back out with me to do chores now that they have had a meeting.

Chicks are popping out all over. It is a good hatch going on this year.

TO..glad you got your birds..

My chocolate LF eggs are doing well.

http://video.wpt.org/video/1522688719/ Here is a great 11 minute video about the maremma guard dogs...hope you enjoy it...there is a short conversation before the video. I know some of you will like it, even though it is a few years old.

Thank you for the video ..made me want to get sheep..except I do not like lamb, and I do not sheer or card. I considered getting a goat for cookie, but I do not want to milk during the winter..I would love the milk for making soap and Fermented Feed. I do worry that chickens will not be enough for her. I think by the time she is old enough to be trusted with a flock free ranging, I might have more for her to watch.

I watched the video .. I saw it on PBS a while ago.. It is well worth watching again.. I believe that in the original the man mentioned watching the LGD's chase off a bear ..

Back from the Vets office again! Annabelle's incision looked a bit weepy and the skin was not being held together any longer, so another car trip! At least this visit only cost around $22! They cleaned her up, glued the skin back together and gave her a shot of antibiotics. Poor baby was trembling like crazy when they fixed her up. Of course now that we are back at home she is running around like a nut chasing Jinx.

Ginger is fitting in nicely. She is such a sweetie! Fonzie keeps acting like a jerk towards her, I am hoping that will go away in time. She is losing weight too, her skin is getting lose, when I picked her up she felt like a drum it was so tight.

Picked up my seed starting mix today. I am getting that greenhouse up and running this weekend, I have to have a project to do. This sitting at home is driving me nuts, and if I keep baking I am going to outgrow all of my clothing!

BigZ, burgers on the grill sounds mighty tasty for dinner tonight......

Enjoy the sunshine everyone!

Speckled Sussex Cockerel, poor guys got frostbite this past icky winter.

Speckled Sussex Hens, one on the right is Mary Lou she'll be 6 this year.

Athena, daughter of Zeus and Hera who is not pictured as she's packed away in the nesting box being broody on 2 EE's. All huddled up from the cold, not very photogenic. I'm not pleased with the lightness of her color but will keep her for a egg layer.

Persephone, my first Foley Pullet

Mynthe, Pullet 1 from Cuties

Aphrodite, Pullet 2 from Cuties.

Hephaestus, Cockerel from CS, he would not look to take the photo, must be camera shy.

Poor Zeus, don't tell him I showed you this photo. He's molting and looks very horrible.
All the chickens in this coop were wet for some reason, they normally have nice clean feathering. I didn't feel like bringing out the blow dryer and towels to primp them for a photo.

Lady wanted her photo taken, SSx Silkie/Cochin, Mary Lou's daughter. One of my favorites, besides being a good lil mama. She raised 24 chicks in one clutch for me last year.

Some pullets from last year along with the Bantams. Dark red penciled hen in back is Ladys sister, SSxSilkie/Cochin. Black Cochin on right is from Yvette, my he/she chick raiser.

Most of these pictures suck in quality, but had my phone with me yesterday when I was out checking for eggs. I can't wait until green grass when I can get some nice photos with out them being all cooped up and messy. It was too dark in the barn coop to get pics of the Orps and Marans, another time. Hope all my photos don't bug ya.

Met with the Rheumetologist today finally, he's quite sure at the least I have Fybromyalgia. Took 16 vials of blood today for tests, will have results back within the week. So far what I looked online is I have low CO2 in my blood and bacteria, not sure what either mean but will know next week I'm sure.
Sun has been out since I left for visitation at 7am, I'm not looking forward to the mucky mess but it sure does feel good. We got about 6 inches of snow by the time if finished yesterday, not like we needed anymore. Ugh, I sure hope that was the last of it for this winter.

She is a doll for sure..I have to argue with Joe all the time about leaving her in the coop..I am going to show him the video when he gets home the next time. Maybe he will understand a bit better.

Nice Sussex!!

Athena might have something wrong with her..I hope its the camera shot..take a good look at her when you can.
I am glad you picked up CS's male..he has wonderful quality and color. Next year he will be spactacular.

I was thinking same thing Vicki but today when I was out she looked just fine upright and happy. She had just drank and it was so damp yesterday morning when set her up on roost she fluffed up and wouldn't ly her feathers down during the time I was out there.
Btw thanks for the plentiful breeding information!!
