We do try to handle every rabbit at least once a week. If a rabbit kicks and fights going back into the cage put them in hind legs first. Most of our rabbits will fight coming out, but they will walk back into their cages.

Today we will be processing 10 rabbits. Tomorrow we will have BBQ rabbit. Friday will be Roasted rabbit. The remainder will be froze for later.

Then we will be in the rabbit area all day Saturday and Sunday. We have cages that need scrubbing, pans to clean, buckets to dump, cages to move. The grow out pens to clean and move to their new positions. The rabbit area need a complete cleaning. Then we will be spending next week cleaning the chicken coop and the duck pen.

Once all of the animals areas are clean we will be working on building 2 chicken hen tractors, 2 duck tractors, a rooster tractor, an incubator, and better brooders.

If it has veins and is not broken, I would keep it.
And I personality have found that Jim's hands off is hands down the best method!
Broody hens only get off the nest every few days to eat for a reason. All that exposure is bad for them. I know how exciting ot is. But...

Nice cold morning - again.

I hope the weather guy is right on about this weekend, we are expecting Sunday to be mid to upper 50s. Whoo hoo!!

The only time I ever eaten rabbit was at my grandparents house. My grandfather had shot it with buckshot, it was a little difficult to eat with all that lead in it. Luckily no one broke a tooth over it.

We have 3 rabbits and my DH wants to breed 1 set, but our buck must be 6-8 years now. I wonder if he can still breed?

A question about incubating eggs..... for those who have automatic turners, when you remove the turner do you just place the eggs on their side or do you have an egg carton half that you stand them up in? Which way works best? Or does it really matter?

Don't..when you hear something.(chicks peeping) unplug the turner..leave the lid on..

My turner has a hole at the bottom of each egg cup. Last year I was hatching Guinea hens (hatched 40 of them in 2 hatches), I had 2 chicks hatch before I stopped and took the turner out. One was running underneigth and the other was stuck with his feet dangling out the whole in the cup (he was ok though).

But that is a really good point about the eggs sitting lower which affects the airflow and temp. If only a hen would go broody.

I appreciate your opinion, helps me in making mine.

Yup, I do lock down, and just wait. They can stay in there for a day while the others hatch. When you open to get some out, the temp/humidity drops. Causing others to shrink wrap. Causing you to want to help. Causing more to shrink wrap.
We will now be using a hatcher. Since our bator is big and has multiple hatches going. Hopefully elevating so much opening to lock d own more eggs. And then get chicks out.
I have only had one egg explode. And it was one that was under a broody that left with her other chicks. I knew it was peeping. And threew it in the bator. I guess it is true that the broody leaves for a reason :-(

Guess I didn't really say, I almost never candle and pitch. Just let them go. But before I put them in, I inspect closely for cracks or bad looking.

, it's been a busy month here. I've been working on getting our business out into the "world wide web"

I'm learning as I go (slow process), and there is much to be added/tweaked, but there's time . . . "retirement schedule". I do have our domain locked down and the page is up with a few blogs on it.

Momg: so glad your dog is doing better and hope the eye continues to heal

Terri: I was going to ask about Tommy, but figure he must be doing fine since he had dinner with you last night.

Rod was able to get all the windows in the solarium replaced just before the snow hit in November, so today he is hanging trim. It's so nice that my niece and her husband live near by, he is able to help Rod with the heavy work . . . so I don't have to (whew!).

Someone mentioned starting their seeds. Kristip and a couple of friends came over Saturday and we "officially" kicked off the spring season, by starting our seeds. I still have lots to plant, but there's time . . . "retirement schedule"

and I sure don't want to be in the way of the guys hanging trim.
