Hi everyone. New to sight AND Wisconsin. Not to mention this chicken business too. We live near Union Grove with 11 acres and have 3 head of horses and now of course all the chickens (10 layers and 10 cornish). I have decided to allow them to free range and they truly love it but worry so much about hawks and other prey as they are only 6 weeks old but have great cover of huge pine trees. But wanted to introduce myself as I am sure I will be picking your brains sometime soon regarding other concerns.

Annie just took a call from our friend Brian..  He is the guy who had Dora as a pup,,  then when Dora had her last litter a little over a year ago, he bought one of her pups from us..
This is all going somewhere, patience grasshoppers..

a few weeks ago, Brian was out in one of his pastures and off of his atv ..  it was well below freezing, 
(pick a day, eh ?)

anyway, Brian slipped and fell and broke his hip..   couldn't get up..  
Dora's pup came to him and dragged him all the way to his atv..  

there he was able to grab onto handles etc and pull himself in..  

with his one good leg he drove to the neighbors and went right inside of their garage.. 

they heard the motor, came out and called 911..

Brian said he would have frozen to death if it wasn't for the dog..

so, Kendra and Vicki, you see ? I told you your pups are from good stock ..

Delisha- Vicki, Of the 11 original, 1 was broken 2 weeks ago by the hens, 5 more hatched (one died-4 healthy), and I have 5 unhatched that are still being sat on. None of the blue eggs have hatched. I do think that one is a blue!

I know of a guy who has several to sell..

They are a year old.

India Blue

$35.oo each..

He will sell individual birds.. Hen or male..

He will NOT sell only 2 hens..

If you want 2, you have to take a male and a hen..

He is going to set them free this weekend.. after that, they will not be for sale anymore..

So are you saying if we camp out near his house this weekend, with a large net, we might get a few free birds? JK...

Are Peafowl very noisy? Are they hard to take care of? agressive? I would love some, but they seem like they would take a lot more effort to take care of than chickens. And to top it off my DH says no!

The past few days have been tough. This week is relatively slow with not much work to be done, so when I'd rather be home with the pup and hatchlings, being bored isn't helping!

I had another phone interview this morning....... I think I prefer the face-to-face, and I really hate the standard form questions..... all the ones you can look up online? I think you get too many canned responses and what the HR rep wants to hear..... too easy to BS your way through.

1876, peafowl are LOUD. Louder than Guineas. I bet if the hill was not in the way, we would be able to hear the ones at the zoo 1/2 a mile away.....

Told DH to buy some Powerball tickets...... luck be a lady tonight!

Peacocks do make a nice call at about bedtime..
I never noticed the peahen making any loud noises..
but if DH says no, then you are out of the running anyhow..

You will need a looooong handle on that net ..

once they are mature, they are very easy to take care of..
they tend to avoid people, and none of mine were ever aggressive..

foxes seem to be the main predator.. IDK about anything else, because nothing comes into my yard..

.....did I mention that I have 208 chicken eggs in the bator..? then I have no other news..

the guy with the peafowl is in Barron ..

H&R knows more about peafowl than I do..
