Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am on Braun Road off 57th amd Route 11.

On Spring St here.
Save me a kitty..I am in no hurry at all..it will be to kill mice..I might take two so they have company. Sex does not matter..they get unsexed.
Pretty good day. Sold 20 chicks today (13 prod chicks and 7 EE) and took on hatching 4 dozen for the same person. I told him .75 per live chick. Does thatsound fair? I've never done it before so I figured half of what I sell my cheapest chick for.

Finished building another incubator hatcher lastnight and the numbers are holding steady since. I wasn't thinking clearly with so many staggered when i put the Hova guts in the other home made that I had nowhere to hatch my next batch without messing up the humidity. I have 20 eggs in lock down right now on day 19. 6 BLRW, 5 SS, and 9 EE. I had been having temps problems over the last 2 days as I cleaned out the room the chickens are in and moved everything around. Somehow must of bumped something and had a spike to 108 then after adjusting it was down to 85. I have it stable now and candled eggs lastnight & tonight and all are alive thankfully. If any hatch it will be a miracle.

Spent most of the day cleaning up yard and house. So busy didn't get time to work on the skid steer like I planned. Being the first nice day in over a week so many other things were needed to get done first. Maybe tomorrow if I'm lucky.

I also forgot to mention with all of this kitty talk. My daughters long haired Siamese mix is due to pop here any day with kittens from our big poly male, so will be having kittens in the next few months to find new homes. I'm hoping for a poly Siamese to replace my Seymour who passed last fall, but her last litter 3 years ago had no Siamese colored kittens. I can be hopeful this time.
you need to have a base cost to cover all electric, gas, out of pocket expenses, than charge your .75 per hatched chick.

I have had a couple of folks ask me what I would charge to incubate for them here, I decided I will charge .75/egg.

This is the time of the year I count the spaces and hatch dates for my birds. Not knowing what others will bring me, it's all the about the space in my Sportsman and the schedule for hatching. I have no control on things like egg age, handling, or fertility. The costs and time involved are fixed no matter if they hatch or not.

One is bringing eggs next week, so it must have sounded alright with them. (I don't advertise this as a service)

just my .02

Unk... Not your .02. Didn't you say it was your .75? Be clear man!

And I'm so glad you pointed out about Jim's new hose. It's looks a little funny when I bring up his body parts... Wait, that didn't sound right... :D

Long soccer day here. At the field at 8am to set up for a Soccerfest which ended at 3pm. Then we headed to the Chicago Fire MLS game and got home st 11pm.DS10 and I just finished watching a movie and I thought I'd check in.
I also planted in the garden and watched momma hen bring her babies down. I have pics but I'll have to load yhem tomorrow.
Nite

Hi All!

Lutz.... Glad your hen is doing better!

Cuties.... Some dogs are a bit OCD when it comes to groups or piles of things. When I was young we had a dog that would pick out all the brown eggs(most were white) out of the egg basket. If there was a hat or mittens on the shoe pile by the back door, she would pick them out. Anything that was different in a pile, she would pick out. Maybe your little gale is doing the same.

Sclark..... My solid black mama hocked up with a long haired, pointed (like a Siamese) male that was hanging around. She had 2 litters by him, Half were borne black, half were borne white and got their points as the got older. Kind of weird, none mixed. We kept 2 from each batch.... and, THEY ALL GOT FIXED!!!!

Not much else... Night All!

*Jim, glad your hose is fixed!

I was gone all day,, just got home a little while ago..

are these the brooder pens that you were talking about ?
they have a very heavy 1 inch by 1 inch square mesh on the bottom, just like the doors..
and then there is 1/2 inch by 1/2 inch mesh on top of the 1 x 1 .. I do throw straw in there so they don't hook their toes in the wire.. but any water that gets spilled drains right through the straw and onto the ground..

who was looking for a YEEEES !!? wildsam ?
here is one for you........

I saw Terri post that she can't keep up on here and I agree! Can't wait for the Bash! :celebrate Just wanted to pop on and showcase our new addition. 15 months dog-free was worth the wait for this guy. 5yr-old GSD, pretty good with all the critters and likes the kids. He came with the name Adden (pronounced Aiden), we're unsure if we'll change it. He's really smart and obedient, and man is he swift. He'd be super at agility. Not bringing him to the Bash though, my hands will be full enough.
That is a handsome fellow!

Thanks for posting!!! I have a integration coop that we built last year.. There was this odd structure sitting around our farm and we just added sides, but no bottom. We are going to add a base and I wanted to use wire on the bottom instead of a solid floor. Especially since I only want to use it during summer.

Still only 6 chicks have hatched! Eggs all from the same hen... 3 are black with white wing tips and a white underbelly, 2 are brown and 1 a golden color with a black toupee. I'm ok if we stop there! I incubated 12 in hopes of 6 in hopes of 3 hens. :)

Amyable - nice dog!

chickenscratch - sounds like a busy day yesterday and most of it spent outside. It was nice around here, hopefully was nice where you are.

Unka & Delisha - You're like the 3rd and 4th person I now know that hatch eggs for a fee.. I'll have to check my friend that does it to see how much she gets. How about Jim, all those eggs you have... what do you charge?

Have a good Sunday everyone!!!

good morning,

I charge $ .75 per egg that hatches.. that is a bit risky if the eggs happen to be infertile.. but so far I have had pretty good hatches ..

I hate to change horses in the middle of the river, but a better way to charge new customers would be either $ .25 for every egg plus an additional $ .50 for each live chick..
OR a straight $ .50 for every egg set..

remember, each egg is taking up space in the bator , and you have to handle the clears just as much as the fertile ones..

It costs me about $10.oo per month to operate each one of my Sportsmans ..

but I would be running them anyhow, for my own eggs, and there is no way that I could completely fill them..

If you are running a small 40 egger, I don't think it would be out of line to charge $5.oo base fee plus the egg fee..

if you can increase the fees that I stated above, do so.. say, add $ .25 to each of the amounts I listed,, but I would not do it for any less..

remember, if they had to buy the chicks, they would be paying $3.oo and up ..

you have to walk the tight rope where you both come out ahead ..

those two pens are ten feet wide and four feet deep.. and 3 feet tall without the 2 foot legs..

If I had to do it over, I would make them 8 feet wide..

I carry these around with my tractor with special forks I built just for that purpose..
It is just about a maximum load . Not that they are that heavy, but because of how they are way out in front of the bucket on the forks..

and when it comes to catching the birds inside, they run to the opposite end of the pen and I cannot reach them with a net.. It takes two people to catch them..

Now I have to go outside and see how much weight I can lift with the tractor,, I think I have air in the line or cylinder.. It is supposed to self prime, but it doesn't seem to be doing it.. and I don't think there is a bleeder plug anywhere ..

No prose today!

DD and the Ensemble pulled in a Second. Not too shabby considering these kids have had 5 different band teachers since they started Band in 6th grade and the majority of the players were Seniors.

I am thinking I might be able to get some yardwork accomplished today. My clover seeds arrived so I better get busy planting them in the lawn. Better to have some pleasing greenery in the lawn than a bunch of nasty weeds and dead grass!

Time for breakfast. Enjoy this beautiful sunny day!
