Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Four HUGE cabinet incubators!

Dang you really could have said something that your visiting Jim! Would have really liked to meet you AND wisdom well Jim !

Instead I had to deal still most of the day with the brat (thanks for your Yes, Jim!) and decided to dig through his junk pile and hope to find some fencing. I did find a little bit, staked it and brought the bigger little duckies outside for the first time. They start to turn white now so I thought it would be the perfect chance before more of the wet stuff drowns us out this week. And they had a blast! Speeding around, taking small baths in their water dish (of course), inspecting the curious chickens and a couple of the dogs (the small ones) and sleeping in the sunshine before discovering that grass and tree frogs are tasty! Lol

Meanwhile SO fixed his car and found that my power steering hose is leaking (yet another hose, Jim). Just great. Not! I'm just gonna have to drive around with that til we can scrounge up some pennies to get another one. Such is the joy around here.

So I sat outside, trying to contain myself to not explode and strangle the brat while watching the ducklings have fun and keeping the circling eagle away.

Now the day is coming to an end and we're heading towards a warmer week but still full of rain. Urgh. I'm so ready for this weather to finally straighten out!

And since we didn't get an email from Holderread our duckling order should probably come next week then. Another week of patience needed. While Cackle Hatchery took a full 2 weeks (!!!) just to ship some electrolytes out! Not impressed...

Next Saturday the animal swap in Ladysmith and the week after in Neillsville. And during that time I gotta straighten out the brats dog again, since he was being spoiled again to the max and is going all back to his former self again. Lovin it right now...

Kendra,

The yellow chick looks like a Jubilee..it should be a dark tan with white tips ..some mottling to it..
A Black and Blue OrpI thought I seen a Gold laced face but the picture is blury.
Theo is a really nice size
I wormed Cookie
We fed her a whole rabbit and she ate the whole darn thing in 1 hour. I just skinned it and gave it to her. She was very protective of it. I was a little afraid for the chickens. She mocked attacked them if they even looked at her. She is really good with people and food. She even gave the rabbit up to me after she was ready to kill chickens over it. She even snapped at Casha..she is such a good dog. She is getting too playful and she is chasing chicks when they run. She is still afraid of moms so they are safe for now. I do worry.

Well I finally made it home about 10 minutes ago. I had a great day bs'n with Jim and look forward to doing it again sometime, however there is no way I can be out this late again! It took me almost 2 hours longer than it should of because I can't see a dang thing at night and as soon as a car comes I go blind. All I could think of the whole way home was, "What the hell were you thinking?" the exact words my husband said to me this morning before I left when I told him they were the size of refrigerators. So many ideas pop into my head but coming up with the one that will make the most sense is hard. I don't have a poured floor in my garage which makes it quite tricky. I thought of re-connecting all the bators like they were originally and using them in my tack shed, after some thought I realized they won't even fit thru the door so would have to make a bigger opening. Thought about reinforcing my addition floor in my chicken room so I can bring 2 in the house so they can be used year round. Also thought about pouring a floor for them in the garage right next to the back door. Originally before I seen them I was going to take 2 into the basement, that is NOT happening now as I don't think they would even fit thru. So many ideas. I can't give up as they are here now and I have to get them unloaded tomorrow so I can give back the trailer I borrowed, if I would of used my trailer they could of just stayed there tarped until I can figure something out. I'm sure this is the same ideas that were going thru Jims head when he first purchased them. I originally wanted to make 2 work of the 4, now I guess I'd be happy with one working great due to the size of them. I guess I'll sleep on it and maybe in my sleep I will come up with the perfect solution. On the plus side, I come home to 1 pipped SS chick of the 20 due to hatch. Today is day 20 on this batch.

It was nice chatting with you today Lutz, sorry for the disconnects, hard to keep a good signal while traveling the great northwoods. Here is a photo of my small Speckled Sussex flock.

One with the bandit eyes in the middle is one of the chicks I've hatched.

Jim- the girl puppy that you are getting on May 20th (I think that was the date), is she from a different line than Gus & Dora?
Her mother probably came from the same line as Dora, In fact from the same farm as Dora..
however they have 6 dogs, so I cannot say which ones were the parents of either..

Her father came from MInn.. no relation to Gus or Dora...

Vicki, you cannot allow Cookie to guard her food.. it could become dangerous if ever a small child would happen to approach her while she is eating..
If you raise rabbits, why would you give her an apatite for rabbit ? just asking..

this is the 110Volt cabinet shown without the turning trays..
the upper compartment is for hatching ..
could be used for incubating, but then the eggs would have
to be turned by hand..

.
this is the 220V unit with most of the trays in it..
each tray can hold about 90 eggs.. I think..
the square lugs on the left are for turning 2 trays at a time.
you can use a crank, similar to a tractor, or a large crescent wrench .
I used a large vice grip..

I just took these pictures this morning, and I figure this is the only time
that I would get to use them..

Ollie worked Ok enough to load the bators.. all 4 of them..
Speaking of working... Stacy's son did most of the heavy lifting..
He is a heII of a good guy and pleasant to be around..
and the baby was so good and has the nicest smile.. cute little sh!t, too ..
she grabbed my finger, and let me tell you, she has a good grip.. she didn't want to let go.. I have always had that problem with women..

I had a couple of hours to kill before Stacy got here, so I did a heII of a good job of grading the driveway..
I attempted to dig a drainage ditch at the road end of the driveway, but the bucket was not working too good..
I have to figure out how to bleed the air out of the system.. It is supposed to be self priming, but that doesn't seem to be working..

I am open to ideas.. BTW, there are no plugs in the cylinders ..
the bucket tilts perfectly, so it is not the pump..
the cylinder where I replaced the hose doesn't seem to be doing any lifting..

since Sandi isn't speaking to us, I figured this would be the "Sandi" post for the day..

Have you tried loosening one of the hose fittings on the hose that you replaced? Just crack it loose and run the hydraulics and that will push the air out of the line. Once you have fluid being forced out just tighten the fitting back up and you shouldn't have any more problems. If it is supposed to be self bleeding them I'm guessing the tank has a breather plug in or around the top side of it that is probably plugged up?
