Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Wow it was nice to be here today. We had a hatchathon going on! Had a pheasy and a duckling by last night.
Now we're up to 6 hatched pheasies (one passed away shortly after) and 4 ducklings. Cuties all around!

We're not going to be able to make it. The FIL died, so there is a lot of work to do! Have a great time at the bash ya'll!

Sorry to hear that, our sympathy

denimandlace: So sorry to hear that-thoughts and prayers with you and yours

!Hi cBloom and welcome! The thread is quiet this weekend as they are having a "ChickenBash" over in the SW corner of the state where most of them live. I am East central part of the state but don't have or know of anyone with Australorps.

Welcome cbloom! Most of our fellow cheeseheads are at our annual bash weekend in Clintonville. So excuse the probable bit of time for someone to get back to you on that. I mostly have ducks and pheasies, so won't be able to help you out on that subject. But sit tight and the cavalry will make their way back into the endless online world!

Sorry all! It looks like I'm not going to make it after all. The hubs is pretty sick today. Hope you have a great time!

One of my younger hens seems to be wanting to sit on the nest a lot. Hopefully she's broody and will want to be a mama!

Sam you'll like what I found today in cross my driveway. Couldn't find the owner so it's now living with my messed up leg chick( 2 weeks old for size reference) my son talked me into not culling. Maybe someone can identify??

Swap went well, sold all but the one BLRW I had left from a few weeks ago. Also found a home for one kitten and the lone rabbit, so I call it a good day and I was all done by 9:30 am to come home and help the SIL fence.

Also stopped and met some new neighbors and picked up 31 guinea eggs that are now in the monster! Have to do alot of research on them before they hatch. Tyler doesn't even know, forgot to tell him when he got home from work, he's going to be one happy boy. He bugged the heck out of Jim when we went to pick up bators that I thought he was going to drive him crazy about the guineas.

Been a real long time since I posted. Quick update. Changed jobs a year and a half ago so I did not have to travel. New job not so great right now, so may have to consider other options. On the chicken front, we have been plugging along okay until this week when we caught a fox running away with a chicken in its mouth. It dropped it but it was dead. That was Becca, a black australorp, then we found one of my first chickens also dead under a tree. That left two, one screaming in the coop and one hidden in a corner . Bummer, but my fault....we had become complacent and let them free range and did not lock them up at night. The fox had managed to pull open some of the hardware cloth.

I bought two new hens from a farmer who raises them for meat, they are POL,New Hampshire Reds. They are real pretty but so far have not melded with the original two. The buff is giving them a hard time.

I hate to keep them cooped up 24/7 but with the fox on the prowl, don't know what options I have. I guess I could build some kind of a tractor to move around and then hand place them in that or just take my chances, thoughts?
