Real Fish Fry Friday again finally...nothing like the outside cooker with ho-made fries and fresh gills from the nearby pond....add a little ho made slaw and it's heaven here tonight.....I'm always ready to set up the fryer for Friday at the bash....no one seemed to want it...some year perhaps. It's perfection.

You need to spend a day here bl4...you will know why I'm not on the thread, you would enjoy every outside minute here on the hill.

About the vinegar on weeds, it does work, just takes some time. Hubby sprayed some on nettles near the apple trees a week ago and there is a big brown circle now. I have forbidden him from using any more roundup on our land.

I agree it takes some time to work. We sprayed that around our "river" in the yard a week ago, and it is first starting to get brown now. I won't use Roundup or any of that other poison either.

Just got my ring neck doves!!!! I've been waiting forever for these guys!

A couple years back, the humane society in Milw. had a flippin boatload of them. They lay eggs like crazy! I can see why there were so many unwanted ones available. Have you heard them laugh?

Bigz, yum! I would have loved a FFF at camp. Hopefully one of these years.

Ugh! The sun & heat really wiped me out today. I think I'm going to bed early tonight.

Her feet are curled and she does move around but not stand up and walk.

The toes of my hen curl too, which makes it difficult for her to walk. Not very well, but she does walk.

We have the sink!!!!! Now to spend the rest of the day getting it back in along with the vanity and counter.

GF cake baked, all I have left is making frosting for all three cakes and making a coconut cream pie for a special lady who is coming to the party. Oh, and cook up the meat but that is easy peasy, toss everything in the nesco and off we go.

CS, nobody minded your morning hair. Besides, Jim had you beat for best bead head on Sunday morning.... He looked a bit like Einstein......

Putting the prep workers to work ASAP, I am NOT doing all the prep for this party.

Congrats on the bathroom and I'm glad that it is not the whole thing.

I spent all day outside. It was an awesome and unique day! It reminds me of summer. For me the summer is a nice break from my normal world. I get to take Friday's off and the kids will be gone for the summer starting in late June. I get to spend "me" time doing things that "I" want to do. I know that once the kids leave for college and then for good, I will miss them tremendously, but at this point in time I cherish the 2 months every year that I get to spend all day outside digging in the dirt and not having a schedule to keep. Today reminded me of the of days when I lived only for myself and on my own timeline. Is this what retirement is like? If so, sign me up. Don't get me wrong...I love my kids and my life. But the busy-ness and chaotic calendar can get to be overwhelming. I know that most of you here have known or are living through the chaos called parenthood and can understand where I am coming from. So as DD11 and DS10 are at their mother's, DD13 was at school, DH was at work, Gpa was playing dominos, and I had my 1st day off of work for the summer......I lost myself and all timelines, schedules, etc and dug in the dirt all day long, cleaned out part of the coop, played with the dog and planted on the hill and in the garden. I am sore and tired, but thoroughly relaxed and happy!

Received my shipment of eggs! I am sooo eggcited! 4 lavender faverolles, 21 salmon faverolles, and 4 BBS English Orpington eggs. Putting them under my 7 broody hens tomorrow then crossing my fingers and try not to stress.

Sounds like a perfectly relaxing day to me! All I can say is that you are really lucky that the kids go to the "other parent" for a while...those of us with the same spouse do not have that luxury! When my kids were little the people that had the "other parent" to send them to were always complaining about their exes...shoot--I would have given my eye teeth (at times) to have every other weekend "off!"

I worked outside a bit today, too..

switched the drag back to the back blade and used it to level the gardens.. worked like a charm. then I took the rototiller through at a shallow setting, put s lot of stones on top of the ground,, I will pick them all up and go at it with the tiller set a little deeper.. pick more stones and then lower the tines again.. I will keep it up until I have trouble finding any stones.. If I can clear it out to about 6 inches deep, I will be satisfied..

Planting will take only about an hour or so..

toinight I still have to transfer some chicks out to the brooder pens.. I need that TV for the new hatch of guineas who are still in the hatcher and bator #2. I removed the hatched eggs,, there are 16 of them.. I put the rest of the eggs into the hatcher..

an anonymous person dropped off 57guinea eggs today while I was gone..
and Jerry M dropped of 20 BO eggs..
they are all dated and in bator #2 ..

FYI,, I have read every post from when I got back onto BYC until now.. no d@mn wonder my eyes are going to heII ..

Brent, I am always up for a fish fry.. You never told me that you would do it at the bash..

I better get at moving those chicks.. I turned the heat lamp on earlier today so it should be plenty warm in the pen..
I am not mixing this batch with the older ones.. these are pure breeds.

Jerry is going to keep bringing me BO eggs after he has enough chicks for himself..
then I can keep some for myself.. I will not charge him for hatching his eggs, then..
seems like a good trade to me..

ETA; the deed is done.. 35 chicks out to the chicken coop pens,
20 guineas into the TV..
and yes, CC, I did clean the tv before adding the keets ..

So we had a 4/10 hatch rate on our first incubation attempt. 1 egg disappeared, 1 blood ring, 4 didn't hatch :/ , and 4 babies

We also have 20 eggs from Vicki that are starting day 20 now. When I left my mom's house, there were 8 pipped. I can't wait to see some more babies pop out!
