Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Evening All... hope puppy shows up Jim...dang that's sad for sure!

Congrats on the hatches...it is fun to watch mother nature at her finest.

Glad the feed went well with the flocks...I'm always willing to pick some up for folks that would like some.

Sirloin steak tonight on the grill....it was perfection...baked spuds, garlic toast, and a Ice cream cone for desert. It was tasty for sure.

Where did you buy the kelp Judi? I looked into it years ago, but couldn't find a source....I thought it would be a good treat during the winter months. How pricey was it?

Been cutting wood, cause my basement is empty...I'm gonna need to start weeding soon. They grow better than anything for some reason.

BigZio-Actually at the co op where BBP works! It cost like $55 for 50 lbs. I know that you can order it through North American Kelp online. Delivered from them to me would have cost $89. (Or $76 for 25 lbs) Ive been reading about it and its really good to use in the garden and around fruit trees as well. I am sure this bag will last me for yrs...wish you lived closer and I could share it with you!

I'm anxiously awaiting a call from my sister. She has been in the chicken coop for the last hour+ watching a raccoon while I tried to get ahold of my parents. No one answers their dang phones! Thank goodness she saw the tail, or it would have been a terrible sight in the morning. I would cry! Dad arrived with a shotgun, then realized he needed something smaller .. guess we have to start trapping again.

Our hatch is all done, we now have 21 fluffy babies from Cindy and Vicki's eggs. Vicki, what were the two blue egg pure breeds? I still need/want to photograph the last 17 babies before they get much older, that sounds really messy though lol! Cindy, I'll message ya soon about returning your incubator

It was very interesting hatching eggs, my mom got super into it and watched every egg hatch. It was neat seeing the kids reactions to it also. They prefer the fluffy chicks to the little wet aliens that pop out

Bathroom tub brooder.. they're going to outgrow this fast!

Best way to remove a raccoon is tennis balls soaked in ammonia. Just toss them up by the coon..Coons have sensitive noses and hate the smell of ammonia.
My Ameracauna's are pure...That does not mean you can't get an EE out of pure Ameracuana's. Look at leg color and body color for now. Most of the chicks I hatch are really nice.

Kildare, I remember now. You are first in this list

clark, I can't say if the chicks were vaccinated. Del ordered them. They were from the second batch we got of blrw. I believe we got them in may. I never asked that question.
all is well here. Busy l ok ke always.
cs, sorry to hear about your work. I have two men here that do always try to bully me. Not very passively tho. I mowtly just bear it. It is a factory. And pretty much how it is. I realise this will just be a part of my job given my choice of career. Sometimes they make me cry. But mostly I can ignore them and be happy I have it pretty good outside of work

jim, we continue to have low hatch rates with the turkeys. They develop fully, and then just never get out

hope you Ll have a good day!
The chicks were vaccinated..that does not guarantee they will not get Mareks. Vaccinations are not always done right. Mareks is not transferred threw the egg. It does not sound like Mareks to me either. They usually have the solders walk before curled toes and you would have flock deaths too.
It might be selenium ..try her on eggs for a week and see if that helps..have you treated for cocci by any chance?

Thanks for the pricing info about the kelp Angiebubs....I'll have to redo some research on it. I do remember it has a ton of benefits. I forgot all about it actually.

Sure hope your puppy shows up Jim....I hope he's not gone for good.

Delish did you see my post about my Xanadu BLRW from you?

Also has anyone ever had issues with broody hens not getting off to eat/drink? I am taking them (4) out of the brooder area once a day and forcing them to run around but the brooder area where I have them-there are no signs of poop, and food hasn't been touched.

setting hens lose a lot of weight,, due to not eating,, they know what they are doing,, let them alone,,

Well 7 turkey eggs, one is sour and the 6th is pipped but the air looked to be on the side so crossing fingers it works it way out... I think they call it a wet or dry hatch... amazing a poor hen had to do an extra 7 days for turkey's but.... so how long will she be their momma? These are my twin grand nieces Morgan on the right was ready to squeeze the poop out that poor little turkey :)

S Clark didnt realize your bird with the leg issues was a year old definitely not Merck's then, that shows up way earlier. Hope it all works out.
My garden sounds like a peanut compared to all of yours maybe 25x25... can't grow corn in it tried once and the racoons scaled the fence and destroyed the entire thing...But I seem to have a head start everyone as my peas are starting to blossom and already have harvested a few radishes... One of the reasons we started with chickens was for a good source of fertilizer, our ground here sucks.
Jim time to go door to door with the neighbors, she is such a sweetie I am sure she made friends somewhere close by. Wishing for a good outcome here...

CS, it is the Natural Sciences Division Admin Assistant; and too late, already dropped my name.

Cuties.

Jim, perhaps a door to door search is in order. I checked CL but it is a good idea to keep checking. I don't suppose you had her microchipped either.....
The person that is in that position is sitting across from me until January due to construction. She was advanced into a new position. By dropped your name, just verifying that you mean that you applied, right? If so, good luck!!!!

G.pa is being a pill with my oldest. Ugh.

Hurt hen seemed like she felt better today. Even last night after I put on the ointment. Does bag balm have pain medicine in it? Prior to putting it on she was not moving around much but about 10 minutes afterwards she was moving around a bunch and today she seems normal.

Jim- ANA needs to come back home. The kids would be sad. If someone took her, they will be back with her soon....she will terrorize them until they let her go. If she got injured some how, where might she go to hide?
