Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I'm anxiously awaiting a call from my sister. She has been in the chicken coop for the last hour+ watching a raccoon while I tried to get ahold of my parents. No one answers their dang phones! Thank goodness she saw the tail, or it would have been a terrible sight in the morning. I would cry! Dad arrived with a shotgun, then realized he needed something smaller .. guess we have to start trapping again.

Our hatch is all done, we now have 21 fluffy babies from Cindy and Vicki's eggs. Vicki, what were the two blue egg pure breeds? I still need/want to photograph the last 17 babies before they get much older, that sounds really messy though lol! Cindy, I'll message ya soon about returning your incubator :)

It was very interesting hatching eggs, my mom got super into it and watched every egg hatch. It was neat seeing the kids reactions to it also. They prefer the fluffy chicks to the little wet aliens that pop out :)

Bathroom tub brooder.. they're going to outgrow this fast!

I must have been really tired..... I slept in until 8 this morning....... I know it appears that I have soooooo much energy, but I really do not. I just push myself when I have to.

My cousin and her family came up for the oldest DD's graduation party yesterday and are camping at Hartman Creek State Park until tomorrow morning. This afternoon we took the bikes out to the park and did a little off road biking. It was really fun! We only did about 4 miles but it was so nice to do a 'different' type of biking. The youngest DS of mine had no fear whatsoever; he would tackle the obstacles like he has been doing this his entire life.

That is about it for now. I am tapped out in the energy department.

Hi All!

erin.... glad it went fairly well for your first hatch!

BigZ...My birds loved that feed but they weren't to sure about the powdery parts, that is going, but going slower. I'll just make mash of the powder if it sits too long.

I'm going to try to get to sleep early (for me) so I can get up and get some coop work done.

That's it for now.... Night All!

I really wouldn't think it could be Mereks at this point, I'm not sure if they were vaccinated for it? Cuties? She's still alive, I just keep her sitting close to the water dish and food. She's got to be about a year old by now, I can't remember when you said she was hatched?

Spent yesterday working on mower and mowing the back yard, all with the push mower. It's killing me, my yard has got to be about 3 acres. I said the hell with it lastnight and put a new fence up cutting about a 1/3 of the back yard is now horse pasture. Theirs no reason I need such a big yard I guess and if they eat on it saves me on my hay bill.

More chicks hatching steady, same here Jim, coming in spurts. Just checked and 5 more hatched over the night, wish they would hurry up already.

Sorry about all your troubles, be it chickens or life. Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Off to Chippewa and Eau Claire today for visitation.

good morning,, puppy is still missing.. I walked around a good part of the property,, nada ..

JP called this morning,, I told him not to expect a lot of keets from this hatch,, If he wants them, I will give him the unhatched eggs.. he can check them out..

I am going to push real hard today and see if we can get all the rest of the stones picked,, and then I am going to try to plant everything but tomatoes and peppers.. I don't have those plants yet..

If I don't find any peppers, no big deal,, we have a lot of them in the freezer from last year..

same with tomatoes.. we have plenty of them canned .. Ken just likes to eat them. so a couple of plants will do..

there is a big green house close to us.. last year I went there and got my plants late, like now..
got a real good price as they were about ready to close up for the season..
the choices were limited, but to me a tomato is a tomato.. I don't eat very many ..

I can see one keet is having trouble standing upright.. I hope he gets the hang of it soon .. he seems to be getting better,, he started out on his back, but now he is right side up..
practice, practice, baby ..

well, it's not going to stay cloudy and cool forever, better get at the garden,,

stacy, if you cannot fill the monster completely, maybe you could remove a few turners and build some hatching trays that way you would have to run only one machine.. and as long as it is running anyway, what have you got to lose ?

are you running an extra heat source ? of did the one element finally catch up ? there is a lot of wall mass to heat up .. but once it is all warmed up, it should stay pretty constant .. eh ?

Kildare, I remember now. You are first in this list :)
clark, I can't say if the chicks were vaccinated. Del ordered them. They were from the second batch we got of blrw. I believe we got them in may. I never asked that question.
all is well here. Busy l ok ke always.
cs, sorry to hear about your work. I have two men here that do always try to bully me. Not very passively tho. I mowtly just bear it. It is a factory. And pretty much how it is. I realise this will just be a part of my job given my choice of career. Sometimes they make me cry. But mostly I can ignore them and be happy I have it pretty good outside of work :)
jim, we continue to have low hatch rates with the turkeys. They develop fully, and then just never get out :/
hope you Ll have a good day!

Delisha: Thanks for the input-I went ahead and bought a 50lb bag of kelp and am adding it to the fermented feed as well as put some next to the oyster shells. Most interesting thing I read about it is, it can help build up immunity to Cocci!

Also wanted to tell you that Xanadu the BLRW I got from you last year is absolutely gorgeous! And get this-a wonderful broody hen so far! She is GLUED to her eggs right now, and I literally have to take 3 of my 5 broody hens off their nests once a day to get them to eat or drink and run around.

Erinnole: Congrats on the hatch! Cute chicks!

Sat & Sun we finally got the garden completed. Its aprox 70 ft by 70 ft with new cattle fencing around it (last years fencing was still allowing the bunnies free buffett). Put in peppers (purple, yellow, red), tomatoes (tons), melons, cukes (Persian, Armenian and regular), potatoes, radishes, onions, lettuce, cilantro, basil, etc etc etc

You never answered me Jimbo. Are you gunna make it to Waves last and final fathers day swap on Sat ?
I didn't hear anything about her swap.. If I get my Blazer back on Friday, I should take it for a road test, eh?

I could really go for a good ice cream cone, too.. are they open on Sunday ?

maybe I could bring some guinea keets and chicken chicks to sell..
