Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am still alive..

Cookie is doing well and improving with the chickens. She is with them all night and half of the day. I do lock her up if I am not home or I take a nap. I take a lot of naps lately.

I am on my last hatch for a while..taking the summer off..

I have Silver laced Wyandotte, Ameracuana (Black and Blue), and Silkie chicks (Black, Blue, Cuckoo) for sale.

Nice Evening here...hope you all had a great day...thanks for the kind words Angiebubs....hope to see you next year at the bash..you were missed by all.

How did the flock like the feed Mom? Be honest and tell the truth. For the others that won the feed, please chime in and let me know your thought's..if you opened the bag.

Busy here this time of year....gotta love this perfect weather, eh!

Hugs..bigz

Now I have a stupid little hawk bothering my meat birds and young turkeys. I don't think he's big enough to grab a call duck or my full-grown bantams, just chicks. But as the bird book describes him, he is "tame". Darn thing certainly wasn't afraid of me. I'll have to do a head count at dark tonight. I think its a broad winged hawk. But not 100% sure.

had some hawk kills this winter,,,,,they hit the birds in the head with talons,,,then eat the head first,,,don't even try to carry them away

these were Welch Harlequins weighing in around 5-6lbs,,,,the hawk was the size of a small crow at best

Her feet are curled and she does move around but not stand up and walk.
Could be Merks, seems to be hit or miss somtimes... Birds with good immune systems seem to survive even if unvacinated... Could be transmitted in the egg itself from the mother who was a carrier? Not much you can do at this point but should she become unable to move, it will be time to the merciful thing
Sounds like a perfectly relaxing day to me! All I can say is that you are really lucky that the kids go to the "other parent" for a while...those of us with the same spouse do not have that luxury! When my kids were little the people that had the "other parent" to send them to were always complaining about their exes...shoot--I would have given my eye teeth (at times) to have every other weekend "off!"
Grass is always greener, But you know darned well your would miss the heck out of them and wonder what that "other" was doing to YOUR kids

Brent, flock loves the feed, DH loves the price, half the price of some of the stuff down here... We both like the freshness and we will take you up on more next year, thanks for being such a gracious host!!! Wish i could train them while free ranging to leave my darned flowers alone though!

Oh yes one more plant death was the Yucca or Davids Needle, these were next to the house so protected and warmer.... New sprouts now finally, but they are just poking through so probably no flowering this year.

Delisha, call it women's intuition but certainly hoping you back to feeling you "old" (treading softly on that word as I also am old)nstrong and chipper self!

Not much else to add since my last post.. went to town and bought a new V belt for the tiller..

put it on and did a couple of passes through the garden,, then the mosquitoes woke up and I got the heII out of there..

still not many eggs hatched.. His eggs are always low on hatch rate.. I always feel bad, but I am not having trouble with all of the other's eggs that I am hatching .. they all are treated the same..

I cannot find the girl puppy tonight.. not like her to not meet me when I come home.. I hope Dora didn't do her in.. they don't get along at all.. Dora is such a sh!t .. no patience with the energizer puppy ..

CS, too bad we are not closer, I would take you out for a drink.
Could have used one too!

After investigation, Theo did get the chicken, but he only grazed the skin. I put some ointment on the wounds and made sure that she would eat, drink, and walk. I picked up all of the feathers in the yard and if Theo tried to eat them out of my hand, I gave him a light smack on the mouth and said No. But that being said, we will need to supervise him with the birds.

As far as work, I had a number of things happening at once. Problem #1: One guy (the guy trying to tell me about MSDS) is attempting to bully me (passive-aggressively) into ordering toxic chemicals after I told him that I wouldn't. My bosses got word and contacted me today reassuring me that I had the final say. I knew that I did, but it's good to hear them say it! Problem #2: the same guy cannot communicate as to what his research is or when his research student will arrive for me to train. Problem #3: The chair of the chemistry department doesn't have enough backbone to tell this guy to find another research plan. Problem #4: trying to switch gas providers and I had been given the go ahead to initiate the switch (which I did) only to find out today that we are still legally bound in the contract. Problem #5: needed to order the approved chemicals for gerk-off as well as his supplies, etc. All while trying to make an appointment for my eye...which I got for Wednesday morning, trying to have a conversation with my office mate about something she brought in for me, getting calls from home about the dog vs hen attack, and my eye itching like mad!

But I have some room to breathe now and all is well for the night!

My DH loves me and continued to work on the drip irrigation today, G.pa loves me and bought a whole bunch of gluten-free products that I'd requested, office mate loves me and brought in SCOBY for me to make Kombucha tea, my animals love me and are surrounding me with love and attention......I won't mention the kids as it would ruin the high note here!

How was everyone else's day?
