Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Delisha: Thanks for the input-I went ahead and bought a 50lb bag of kelp and am adding it to the fermented feed as well as put some next to the oyster shells. Most interesting thing I read about it is, it can help build up immunity to Cocci!

Also wanted to tell you that Xanadu the BLRW I got from you last year is absolutely gorgeous! And get this-a wonderful broody hen so far! She is GLUED to her eggs right now, and I literally have to take 3 of my 5 broody hens off their nests once a day to get them to eat or drink and run around.

Erinnole: Congrats on the hatch! Cute chicks!

Sat & Sun we finally got the garden completed. Its aprox 70 ft by 70 ft with new cattle fencing around it (last years fencing was still allowing the bunnies free buffett). Put in peppers (purple, yellow, red), tomatoes (tons), melons, cukes (Persian, Armenian and regular), potatoes, radishes, onions, lettuce, cilantro, basil, etc etc etc
awwww..that is wonderful

I am so glad you love her and she is a good momma..
They love to be broody and are very attentive to chicks. They stay on the nest longer than my other hens..so make sure you keep feed and water close..I have had them let baby's dehydrate by waiting to long.

setting hens lose a lot of weight,, due to not eating,, they know what they are doing,, let them alone,,
Jim!! I am so happy to hear puppy is back! Awesome way to start your day!

Jim/CC: My concern is, two of the broody hens are starting out with very low body weight as they have been broody for a couple weeks already.

Delish: I was surprised how well she is doing as I keep hearing that Wyndottes rarely go broody! Shes such a sweetheart but her and my LF Blue Cochin are skin and bones already from being broody for the past two weeks. The brooder pen is empty of poo and food hasnt been touched, so in the evening, I take them outside and set them down. They run around like crazy, eat, drink, scream, chase a few hens, then go back and stand in front of the brooder area for me to put them back in after 15 mins

Woohoo! Puppy is back! Awesome deal!

I know just how frustrating and worrisome that can be. Had an all white shepherd, a real smoocher. Then we got a new puppy, and she was TROUBLE from day one. When I once went to get milk she dug a hole under the fence and he followed her. They were gone, and didn't come back as they did the time before after 1.5 days. I still reprimand myself for not at least leashing my shepherd as I had rescued him and loved him dearly. Didn't care too much for the puppy anyways as my ex got her from a junk yard as freebie against my will. Just can't get over having lost him. Since then I got my Rottie and Pit-girl. And ex dumped me. Oh well!

Gee, why do I always end up writing a book on here?!? Everything else is fine, ducklings growing like weeds and in the condos besides the last batch (bout 2 weeks old now). Heading back there from city today and can't wait to see and spoil them again!

That's it for now. Gonna release you from reading more of my thoughts. But beware, I'll be back! ;)

Sam are you interested in Muscovy ducklings at all? I have a friend who is trying to dump me with dozens of ducklings and I don't want them but thought I'd try and see if anyone else would be interested in them.

good morning, at a more decent hour ..

I got about an hours worth of sleep after the pup came back. I had to get up at 8 and take Kalib to work..

as soon as I got back here, I took the pup to the vet.. she has an abscess where Dora bit her last week.. hence the pain and crying..
The vet cleaned the wound and gave her a shot for pain.. a 1/2 aspirin and a 1/2 antibiotic pill..
the shot will make her drowsy for about 8 hours.. her appetite is good..

Ang, I never heard of a broody dying on the nest.. you are going to screw up the eggs and they won't hatch,, leave those birds alone .. You asked for advice, and then you don't take it..

I already feel like a nap.. I will fight the feeling,, I have to get those potatoes planted..
Annie said she would help me, and then hopped into her car
and went to town..

Sam, look at the bright side..
no more ex,, = no more junk yard dogs ..

there are 7 more keets from JP's hatch,, Not the usual popcorn hatch that guineas do.. but we did reach 50% with this long drawn out hatch ..

I'm sooooooo glad she found her way home.

I don't think a chip would have done any good in this particular sitch, unless someone else found her & turned her in. Maybe a GPS collar for the little wanderer?

Vicki, how much you want for the chicks? This weekend might work. I will let you know. Otherwise, if you had any eggs, that would be great too.

Ang, do you have the food & water close to her nest? When I have a broody on eggs, I put her in an area by herself and put the food & water right in front of her so she can reach it without getting off the nest. It works for me.

Bleh...... I hate these marathon interviews. Three and a half hours and interviewed by 5 different people, you would think this is for the CEO...

So now we wait and see.

I am with you Jim, I need a nap. First thought I need to do the daily job search.

CS, I hope your eye is ok.
