Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Thank you, everyone, for your concern about DH. He says thank you also.

The antibiotics are starting to work. His hand looks better today than it did yesterday.

This was Saturday:

This was Sunday night:

And this was today.

The marker on his hand was to mark where the infection was so they could see if it was spreading. The line going through the middle of his hand was where it was on Saturday. By Sunday, it was to the line by his wrist. Thankfully, the antibiotics kicked in. The redness is almost gone and the swelling is slowly going down.

Do not take bites of any kind for granted, people!

Garden is in! Whew! There is a little room for a couple more maters & a few staggered plantings of lettuce. Need to pick up some peppers, only 3 of mine survived me. ;)

good eve,

yup, I beat the rain,, I planted a whole packet of buttercup squash seed.. all twelve of them,, twelve seeds for $1.59

can you believe it ? If they all come up, we should have plenty of squashes.

we are having quite a light show outside right now.. seems to be mostly to the South of us..

tomorrow I think I am going to go get two new cylinders for the tractor.. I called Wausau Hydraulics and talked to Stan.. He told me what I had to do to make a double action cylinder into a single action cylinder..

yeah, I know where Kersten road is,, In fact I know a couple of people on that road.. Kerstens and LaBlanc and Sonnentag .. .. I am hatching some eggs for a guy who lives just about a mile south of Kersten Rd on the other side of J..

I live West of Wausau,, about 22 miles from J ..

I have to do some research about hydraulics, so I am cutting this short..

.........jiminwisc.......

Oh yeah.. when I got all finished with the garden planting,
THEN Annie asks me if I have room left for cukes.. really ?
I had all I could do to squeeze the squashes in.. I suppose I can come up with some room for her cukes.. I told her to get the bushy kind so we don't have cuke vines all over the place..

CC_glad to see that the anti-biotics have kicked in!!!!

Amy-glad that you got your garden tasks done today.

My kombucha is almost ready!!!! I can't wait. I'll eventually have SCOBY to spare if anyone wants to start their own kombucha.

Jim-there is always room for cukes. The vines will just mix and you get to hunt around for the cucumber vines...it's lots of fun, I promise! Did that last year.

Does anyone know if winter squash prefer to grow on top of straw?

CS, I have wanted to try that stuff for a while...... that and kefir. I would take some starter but have no idea if or when I will be headed your way.

Nice storms rolling in, thank goodness nothing like what hit Nebraska today; that was just amazing. Unfortunately there was one fatality with those storms, possibly more I am sure. Watching the video of that one tornado hit Pilger......... just amazing and horrifying.

CS, I tackled the crab grass/flower beds again today. The crabgrass is so thick in there that the roots have interwoven together making a mat. It makes it easy to pull up but also difficult to get all the roots!

No interview news yet. I guess I should just wait for the rejection email.

Time to shut down, storms are getting closer and Fonz is already under the bed.....

Oh Robin! I am SO happy Steve's hand is doing better! DH thought he was bit by a snake since they mark the skin like that to monitor swelling..... we have watched too much Venom ER at this house.

CelticChick - I'm glad to see the swelling is going down in your hubbies hand. I recognized the pen marks - it caused a flashback to when DH got a skin infection from a tick bite. I practically had to drag him to the doctor when I found out how high his fever had gotten. We caught it just in time, he was given anti-biotics, but when the swelling doubled overnight he had to sit in urgent care and get the IV anti-biotics. They left the needle in, just incase he needed a second dose the next day. Well, first he had to wait for an hour and a half for them to get THE LAST BAG OF ANTI_BIOTIC IN TOWN from the other hospital, a whole 7 blocks away.

Jim, last year I strung a 4 foot tall nylon mesh from the base of my cukes and up at an angle to the ground. It was tied to a 2x2 on top and bottom and the top to keep it straight. They grew up onto the mesh (with a little help here and there) and it was pretty easy to pick the cukes as they dangled below the leaves. You could do that with just about any fencing I would think. They were clean also - no sandy mess in the kitchen trying to clean them up. Best of all - no vines spreading through the garden and taking over everything. I square foot garden so I planted spinach under the cuke vines hoping that the shade would slow down the bolting - I think it helped give me an extra week of salads.

Hi All!

The storm is upon us. I hope I have enough "roof" over the rooster pen.

This is the first storm we had since I put them in there.

Well, I think Pepper has 5 chicks. I found a dead one in there. I don't know if it was the one that was having hatching issues or if it was one of the first hatched. It was fairly large, so was the issue egg. I also have one I'm trying to keep warm. Mom was moving the kids around and this one didn't have time to dry off and rest enough. Don't know if it will make it, but worth a try. This was such a staggered hatch that the first and last ones were in danger of not getting what they needed.

That's it for now..... Night All!

Thank goodness Angiebubs reminded me that I had eggs in the incubator last night. We had a power outage and I was very worried that my food was all going to spoil. I totally forgot about my call duck eggs! I'm not sure how long it was off, but I did sneak all of my eggs under broody hens after about 1/2 hr. Then I had a dream that they broke them all :( Time to go gather them back up and return them to the incubator.
