Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Discovered that with half my coop flooding, that one of the 4 nestboxes in brooder must have had pine shavings too high below it and it made the shavings in nestbox damp. Somehow when I felt under the broody hen, she was all damp! Needless to say I have her moved and settled in to a dry clean setup. But I was sure the eggs would be dead. Candled and there is still movement in all 5 of hers! Poor momma!

Working to once again clean out the entire coops bedding, dry out the coop, sprinkle Dry Stall, put down fresh shavings and hope for no more rain!! Keeping in mind the coop is probably 12 ft by 20 ft with a ton of stuff in there to work around :p Im out of shape. There has never been water in there like this! They say this is the wettest spring since late 1800's.
Hope mama has a successful hatch of her 5 eggs. This rain has been a bugger . . . so much flooding and saturation. We opened the roof at the end of April thinking the prep would be done by the end of May, so the roofing company could shingle. Well long soggy story short, the roofing company will be starting this week

had a very busy end of the week and today. DS(9) had a baseball tourney- played 2 games- lost both games

so they are done. DH and DD and DS(14) were able to make the 2nd game, I didn't see either game... I was at the hospital with my parents......and they released my Dad today

he improved so much over the last week that he didn't need to go to another rehab facility but the doctor's recommended that he and my mom have extra help for awhile yet so that she can get some rest/down time. So they are now staying with us until they are ready to go home...one day at a time is what we tell my dad. His strength and memory are getting better each day. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers.

Other than that the grass needs to be mowed so maybe tomorrow.

Have a good one!
So glad to hear your Dad is doing so much better and didn't need to go to a rehab facility, the healing will be much faster this way.

I disagree - though I wasn't at the bash so I didn't have a dog in that fight. The more you support the bash with your ticket purchases, the more you are likely to win. That's how a raffle drawing works. (Door prizes are a whole different story.) If others are unhappy because they didn't win anything, they should just buy more tickets. It's all chance and numbers. I figure that I should consider my ticket purchase as a donation - If I win anything, that's just a bonus. If I don't win anything I've still made my donation and that's all I expected in the first place. I don't think there's any need for you to worry about karma and there's no need for anyone to be upset with you for winning more than one prize. Just my humble opinion.

A "Chinese Auction" is another way to do that. Each prize has a container next to it for the tickets. Write your name on the back of each ticket and drop them in the containers for the things you want/need. The better prizes will have more tickets in them and will be harder to come by and no one will get a prize they really didn't want.
I agree with both comments Irishrovr - what a great way to pay for a fun weekend with like minded folks. I was so disappointed I wasn't able to join in this year and am VERY much looking forward to camping with everyone next year. One of the reasons I donated an item is to help this continue. I also like the idea of a Chinese Auction although I think the idea of auctioning the "hot items" first is good too. By doing that everything will go to a winning ticket. Where as with the Chinese Auction if something does not receive any tickets, what of the prize? Just adding my penny's worth.

In a Chinese auction, what happens to the items that nobody bids on ? do you raffle them off ?

come on , we are all adults, we buy tickets, and we takes the chances.. I also buy the tickets to help defray the costs.. if I should win a prize or two, I wouldn't expect anybody to get their nose out of joint over it.. HeII, this is the first year of them all that I won anything at the raffle.. to tell the truth, I don't remember who won what at any of the raffles..
except for this year when Cind won ALL the prizes AND the pizza cutter..
lau.gif

bottom line, if you don't want to lose, don't buy a ticket ..

Looks like the turkeys are done.. final count 72/105 close enough to 70% for me ..

I am running out of cross bred chickens to sell.. I am down to 5 Delaware and 6 Buff Orpingtons ..I am saving the BO's for myself.. All of my hens are a year old,, and I will be needing some year old ones next summer..
I think I will phase out of the Delawares ..

I took 12 Dels to Marlene today.. she does not have any chickens or guineas to reproduce, so she is having sales withdrawal ..

we started saving eggs again today for hatching some more..

I put the guinea keets on Madison, LaCrosse,Green Bay and Wausau craig's lists ..

If it doesn't rain for the next two days, I might have to water the garden.. sure dries up fast with this wind blowing ..

Thanks for the well wishes! less than a week to go. I then had the one broody hen that was left in with the flock, sitting on an empty nest instead of her eggs for a few hours-will candle tonight or tomorrow to see if they are still viable. Good luck on getting your roof done!

It has been a busy week and I have not been around to even check in..

BBP- I hope you find who is killing your birds

Stacy- I hope things work out for the baby, your dog, and you get your incubators running well.

I am glad your dad is well enough to be brought to your home to recover.

Does anyone want some rabbits ? Joes grandson is done with FFA and 4H and off to college and needs a place to put his show rabbits. I told him I would take them, but I would just grind them up. He was not delighted with the idea.

Delisha, luckily the birds I got from you are still in their own pen and not running around the yard (unless I'm home). So they are both still alive and doing great.
Angiebubs was over yesterday and noticed that my rooster has a broken spur. Maybe his attacker has it stuck in his face? Hope so. That rooster is quite the fighter. He lost alot of feathers all over the yard.

Hi everyone from sunny Florida... I am at a conference for a few days and hubby is taking the kids to the parks. Wednesday afternoon on I get to join them. Learning good stuff...now to find a new job!

Delisha...what type of rabbits? I am working on dh to try a bunny or two again...

Glad in don't have to worry about watering the garden while gone, but flooding is not much better...more later

Hello everyone! It's still rainy here. The kohlrabi has split due to the excess water

otherwise everything is growing well.

Theo is also growing. He is eating more lately and then I looked out at him this evening, man he is getting big! Maybe adding water is making him grow too???

Baby roo is still missing down the rabbit hole. Maybe he's in Wonderland?
gig.gif
The reality is that he got stuck or injured and is dead in there somewhere. I got down on my belly in the coop
sickbyc.gif
and put my whole arm in the rabbit hole to look for him, but I didn't even find the end of the rabbit hole, let alone the baby roo. DS10 said, "well at least it was a roo, we didn't want him anyway!" Ain't it the truth. I'm just curious what happened and I don't want the smell of rotten baby roo.

I agreed with Jim, we are all adults. If you bought the tickets, you should take the prize!

Jim I'm assuming with all the different hatching you do that the humidity for the keets is the same for chicks? Also what do you feed them? Do you buy different feed than you start your chicks? Looks like 19 if I can get them to make it out of their shells correctly. This is my first time doing guineas. Also found out that the neighbor will give me as many eggs as I want no questions asked. I will supply her with as many chicks as she wants in return.

Pretty sure next week will be the last I'll do of the layer/meat chicks unless someone orders them. With the 11 dozen set last Friday and the ones I pick up this Friday(pretty sure will be at least 10doz) will be a great plenty to hatch. I only have a few more swaps that I want to attend and think I'll hatch out thru the month of July and stop until December. I hope to grow out a bunch for the fall swap in Neillsville. I have a broody SS that keeps stealing the clutch the Silkie/cochinxSS has been sitting on for the past few weeks. I may have to take her and her eggs and put in a carrier like I did last year to protect them. Finally get my cochin bantams to lay nice over this past month and 2 are not broody. At least I got some eggs of theirs to incubate. I have quite an array in these next hatches to add to what I had been hatching so far this year. Lav Orp, BO, 1 Lav EE(I'll have to share a photo of her, you won't believe she's laying a blue egg either) cochin bantams, MaranxBO, and of course BLRW, SS, BLR EE. I have one hatched out of the Lav EE so far and she looks like she'll be a black split, I don't even know what you'd call it since her mother lays blue eggs. A mutt I suspect. Good thing I band these buggers or you'd never keep them apart.

Had a chance finally to scope over the batches that were hatched a few weeks ago and the blrw are looking nice and the blr ee look nearly identical other than the tufts and beards. Again good thing I'm banding. I have 43 of the layer/meat chicks growing out nicely also. Had a lady call me Saturday wanting 150 of them but just couldn't do it. She had an order for 300 prod reds from Sunnyside and they didn't have all of her order and she wanted chicks of the same age. My big batch won't be ready for 2 1/2 more weeks.

So baby, Tyler and myself haven't felt too well for the past few days and get a call lastnight from my daughter that she has Mono and may have spread it to us. It would explain why we aren't feeling well. Like any of us needs to be sick right now. I don't know how that girl can handle catching so many things all the time. Before this was scabies she spread to us. Theirs numerous stds she's had over the past few months. I have never experienced them but sure as hell hope I never do either. I told her that abstinence would be a cure for most of her problems but she didn't like that very much. She also informed me that she's not pregnant, thank GOD!!! I wish they could court order her to get fixed or something. Again I told her she has one she can't take care of she needs to start using her head before she ends up with another one she would get taken from her. I love my daughter but as mean as it sounds I'm very embarrassed as who she has become.

Have a good nite all. Visit early in the morning.

Delish! Sorry to hear about the mono scare and the struggle with your daughter. Its so hard with adult kids....love them and on one had you want to hug them and fix everything and the other hand you want them to be independent good decision making adults. Its hard to stand back and watch some of their decisions.

I candled my 4 eggs under my broody that had moved to an empty nest for a few hours Sat night-movement in all 4!!! Count down: 2 days till Meg gets her braces off, and 5 days till eggs hatch!!!
