Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

cuties:I think its awesome that it not only was a fun project, but it helped your daughter gain confidence in public speaking too!
I taught 4H in California for a couple years when I home schooled (Yes Cali has 4 H LOL) I assisted with a sewing, a cooking, and a community garden project, and also led a Cat project. It was one of the ways to allow for socializing while being home schooled. But that was many many moons ago!! I loved it! Now where I live there are so many different 4H clubs, and not sure they would even need or want help :-( I just need to investigate and see.

good afternoon,

I was gone all day,, got 3 loads of sh!t hauled out of one of he coops..
picked up a bag of horse bedding,, going to try that instead of wood shavings..

I used grape seed oil to temper my iron skillet.. I have also use corn oil, or just plain pork fat..

Bacon grease is not always the best to use because sometimes there is sugar in the cure and also some other stuff that just gets sticky in the pan..

I do all of my egg incubating the same,, at lockdown I like to increase the humidity,, for turkeys I like to get over 60% .. chickens and guineas do well at 45% or even higher ..

I just read 4 pages of posts,, I think there was something else I wanted to comment about..

Oh yeah, to the newbie,, describe the manner in which your chickens were killed.. mangled,? heads missing? heads pulled through the fence ? many different animals ;eave many different tell tale signs..

another oh yeah,, I feed my guinea keets the same medicated chick starter as the chicks get..

DD#1 (Barby) husband died this morning.. he had cancer of the lungs .
. 54 years old..
stuck fast to his denial that cigarettes had anything to do with it; right to the end..
gotta admire his convictions ..

were married less than 2 weeks..

I have to go out and add some liquid gold to the tractor..

then change the chick's waterer,, the pan is cracked on the one I cleaned up just this morning..

we put all the rest of the little chicks in with the older chicks..
now the chicks and guinea keets are separated ...

Their heads were gone that was all, we had lost 5, 2 nights before, so moved them to a stall in the barn, enclosed the stall with chicken wire, there was a small area where the varmint pushed it's way in. No chickens were dragged to the place it got in. We surfed the net for what could have done such a thing, what we came up with was a weasel or mink...we made 3 traps for it, nothing touched 2 of the traps but the one trap , by the creek, had the wire chewed open and the chicken liver (used for bate) was gone.
My husband built the traps with 2 2in openings, one had wire covering the hole, the other was open, for the weasel to crawl in and have to cross a rat trap to get the bait. That never happened..like I said, the wire was chewed open and the bate taken.

Hi All!

Well, no peeps from the Marans eggs

Pepper's sister Salt is broody and so is Storky. So I'm looking for fertile eggs! I would like to find Welsummer or Marans, true Ameraucana and Australorp. Hopefully within an easy drive. Thanks!

So sorry to hear about your losses, Stocking.

That is a hard one to swallow. I looked at your other thread & it sounds like a weasel of some sort. Often they bite somewhere around the neck & drain the blood, then leave the carcasses. And as Dan said, they are really hard to trap. Hugs to you & your family and good luck.

Awww, so sorry about your eggs, Cindy.

I don't have any of the breeds you are looking for. I wish I did. TerriO has Aussies, IF she would ever check in................. (insert foot-tapping smiley here)

Been busy here taking advantage of the cloudy weather the past few days to weed out my gardens. And I have come to the conclusion that I am no longer a spring chicken.

(Zip it, Heather!) I am really out of shape! My arms feel like rubber today & I can barely keep my eyes open. So that is it for me. Sweet dreams, all!

Sorry to hear about your son in law jim. Widlsh I could quit smoking. It was so easy to stop when I was pregnant. I just knew I couldn't do that to my babies. But i have never been able to quit any other time. I have been at it since I was 12.
Cind, so sorry about the eggs. My marans hen was broody. But just started laying again. I will be repenning her. As Zeek would also like a few more from her. I don't think you would want your girls nsitti g long enough for her eggs to be pure again tho! Hope you find what you need. Teri also has marans. Hers are. Cucko.
Angiebubs, I think you should just contact your fair office in the area. The clubs are always looking for extra help! They could direct you to ones that have others with same interests. And ones with kiddos the same age as yours. I chose our club because some of the members in this one have been involved in my dog project. There is another girl syd's age. And lots of boys for Blake to wrastle :)
