Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I live in the Fox Valley area, WI. I am new to chickens--got my first six in early June. They are now 4 1/2 months old. I really wanted 10 to start with but my husband said let's go slow. Now he thinks we should add 4-6 more to the flock. I've been checking craigslist every day. No one seems to have pullets to sell right now. I'm not equipped to take any that need an incubator still. And I'd ideally like some my chickens age. I have 2 gold stars, 1 Easter Egger, 1buff Orpington, 1black australorp, and 1 silver-laced Wyandotte. If anyone here knows anyone that has any for sale please let me know. Thank you!

we have some extra Andalusian pullets but we live close to Madison.

A little over 2 1/2" of rain total here...... too bad we have such sandy soil. It takes a bit for the rain to soak in so we end up with flooding and then suddenly the ground soaks it in like a sponge. The town west of us had some flooding issues, apparently some of the streets were developing pot holes and some were completely flooded.

Fair starts on Wed. Always nice to have the Carnies running lose around town......... hoping the rain for the rest of the week holds off so we have a decent turn-out.

We got about an inch of much needed rain

. I need to get our sweet corn harvested and in the freezer before it gets any riper. My day job keeps getting in the way!!

good afternoon,

got about 2" of rain,, i needed it for the new grass seed,, but it came down so hard, that I think the seed might be all at the bottom of the slope..
now it is too muddy to try to rake it back up the slope, so might have to re-seed ..

stopped turning the last batch of eggs today.. by this weekend I will be all done hatching for this season..

going to take all the bators and supplies up out of the basement and set up shop in one of the chicken coops.. might not even hatch next year.. I will have a lot of equipment to sell , in that case..

fired up the chainsaw today.. I am going to cut away at the birch stumps, even if I have to sharpen the teeth several times.. getting those stumps out of the way will speed up the lawn mowing by a lot..

Cind, you have to watch the turkey when she goes back to her nest.. she will come out sometime for a short time to eat and drink.. but you have to watch from a good distance . If you crowd her she will not go back to the nest soon..

Rainy Day here Too! We really were slammed last night with rain...plenty of tipped over stuff in the garden...you know it rained hard when the cabbage is flopped over....the peppers are easy to stand up again and the sunflowers always fall on something.... I'm always gonna love gardening...it's all part of the harvest to come....nothing better than home grown.

My light brahma roo finally put the kick arse on the buckeye roo....he crowed and crowed after losing the battle....about time he received a little bid of medicine...

Sirloin pork roast tonight with fresh green beans and a baked spud....kinda like comfort food.....but it's been a while and I love roasts...

good afternoon,
had two minor cloud bursts, nothing to run into the house about.. but Annie just came down here and she is soaked.. she was picking beans.. funny, I was just out there 3 minutes ago, and the sun was shining .. well, better her than me,,

I got the last tooth on the drag,, It took almost as long as moving the 4 yesterday.. but I had to make one out of two and then remove one and add one.. loosening 1 1/8" NFT bolts a quarter turn at a time takes a long time and gets boring real fast ..

WOW..... no one posted all evening?

Yea, Jim, as far as watching where the hen turkey goes, got to spot her eating or drinking first. She doesn't seem to come out at regular times, matter of fact, the last couple of weeks she was only spotted twice.

Nothing else new..... Night All.

The wind blew open the garden gate yesterday. It only took the flock 30 seconds to peck holes in a dozen perfect tomatoes. Used the shepherd to shoo them out and tossed all the holey ones over the fence.

Well played chickens, well played.
