I guess I deserved this for begging for rain.

At about 4 this morning the storms started. My german shepherd was laying on the floor...so I thought. All of a sudden the lightening flashed and his nose was an inch from mine. If I wasn't already laying down I think I would have fallen over.

Yea for the rain!! Hopefully, it is soaking in. Got some sweet corn harvested and in the freezer. May chop the rest and try to make silage for the chooks. Anyone tried that??

..hi all, to the few of us left ..

it has been raining here for over an hour.. good solid rain,, this kind adds up..

Dora is selective about being shy of thunder.. I noticed that if our bedroom door is closed, thunder doesn't bother her,, Otherwise she uses it as an excuse to go into the one forbidden room in the house..
Nothing bothers Gus.. He does not like it when I chase him with the lawn mower, though ..

no pips yet..

maybe this rain will soften up the dirt around that stubborn stump.. I guess I will have to break down and hand dig around it enough to get a good grip with the chain..
Here is where I could use a 1/2" steel cable..better than a chain ..would dig into the stump and not slip off ..

tomorrow I have to go pick up chicken feed.. getting rid of so many chickens and geese really cut down on how much feed i have to dish out in a day.. I am down to about 4 scoops from the 50 pounds per day I was doing..

the hens' feathers are growing on their backs nicely.. It is not taking as long as I thought it was going to.

Cooties, I hope the new pony works out.. don't fall in love with it before you buy it.. make d@mn sure it doesn't come with any surprises after you get it home.. like sudden "panic" attacks .. fake fear of a branch laying on the ground,, stuff like that..

Yes. It is hard. I already imagine her here.
But Terri warned me to be sure we have the gal groom, saddle, ride. And then we also work with her to see the reaction she will have. She is only two. But seems they have spent time with her. She is boarded with a trainer that works her. And just had two months breaking with the amish. I am nervous about her being young. And not "dead"broke. Trying to keepnmy lid on the excitement. And an open mind. I know that in a few months when the grass is dying, the ponies will be a dime a dozen.

the trouble with ponies is that people don't treat them like horses.. they are so cute and they let them get away with murder,, they treat them like pets and not horses..

Yes, I think that was my mistake with Brownie at first. We played with him. And coddled him. But now that he has to work a little, he is much better behaved. He is just 1. But already Sydney can saddle, and ridenhim alone. And I can trust he will not do anything bad. She even picks his hooves on her own.

At 1, I would not trust that pony too much with Sydney. All it takes is one little thing out of the ordinary for the little guy to spook and maybe do some harm. Even little ponies have a lot of power.

My sisters 6 year old would ride her horse in the pasture all the time. Her horse was over 15 years old at the time, pretty much bomb-proof and was HUGE, he had to climb up on the fence to get on. One day he was trotting her around and lost his balance and fell off, getting his foot stuck in the stirrup. She continued trotting and he started screaming, so she took off out of fear at his screaming - (this is what the horse is thinking: OH MY GOD! WHAT IS COMING TO GET US !?! LETS GET THE HECK OUTTA HERE BEFORE WE GET EATEN!!) dragging him all the way. My sister was able to call the horse and stop her within a minute and the horse stood still till she got there - she never knew she could cross that pasture so fast. Her son was shaken up, but not hurt. She made him ride back to the barn - he was too big to carry and he didn't want to walk. She knew it was best to get him right back on the horse anyway.
That was the same horse that was kicking at a fly on its belly and broke her arm.

Rainy Day to everyone....we need some sunshine here for the garden crops, even though we have been busy canning.....another big kettle of salsa is cooking now....it is so useful for so many dishes...we go through 80 pints here every year...it gets shared with the kids of course.

I don't care for frontier...we are about to quit them...terrible service with tons of price increases. Did I mention terrible service?

Bowhunting is closing in fast...fresh venzun in the near future....

I'll have plenty of grass to cut when and if it ever dries out...if it doesn't, then I will just let it go.

Tons of good folks here...life is full time and this Cheesehead thread will always have folks checking in from time to time....some not every day or week...I'm OK with that for sure....GO PACK!

good afternoon, It stopped raining for the time being,, I went out and dug around that stump. It is too wet to drive the tractor across the lawn to get to it, so it will have to wait a day or so..
