as long as Dora can get to water, she will be fine for awhile ..

there are still a couple of places we cannot see into,, like under the lumber pile, for one..
Annie said that Dora would not fit into that hole.. as usual , we do not agree ..

Hi All!

Jim... I know some animals like to be alone to give birth, others will drop the baby trying to fallow you around! You said she tried giving birth on the couch once so I thought she may be the latter.
Poor Ollie!

Fernie..... stop in more often!

KV..... Sorry for your loss.

SClarck.....Hope you can make thing work out. It's hard to know what's best when they are that age.

Night All!

...

here is what a broken front axle looks like.
JIM -
OH my, your poor tractor! That is a really sad picture. I know my hubby would be beyond consoling if that happened to his tractor. Hope you can get it fixed soon.

My sister had a dog that was hiding under the front porch when her trailer was struck by lighting. (It melted the toaster on its way through the house! lol) The dog must have been pressed up against the metal skirting because it took off yelping at high speed into the nearby swamp. My sis swears that it was smoking/steaming. The dog was gone for over a week before it came back home. Holding out hope for Dora.

Well, hopefully we will be on the road first thing tomorrow morning for the final move to Wisconsin. Not looking forward to the drive, but looking forward to being there soon.

Quote: good morning, I have a lot of dismantling to do.. both front wheels have to be removed.
the loader is still on, and that will have to come off.. I have it raised in order to take this picture..

All that stuff on the front of the tractor, is the hydraulic system.. reservoir tanks and pump.. that alone is a 2 day job to remove and replace.. I am going to try to not remove it..

I only worry that if Dora has pups, that she gets some food and water into herself .. those pups eat a lot..

I can just picture that smoking dog heading for the water..

I hope your move goes without a hitch ..

wow, over 8 hours and no posts..

I removed the bucket and the 3 point drag from the tractor..

I think I can go ahead and hoist it without removing anything else..

I have to make a short chain with hooks on each end, and then make a spreader for that chain.

If Russell doesn't come along with his hoist frame by tomorrow
, I will go buy a bunch of 2by4's and just build one..

I think I have located a replacement axle at Black Creek salvage ..

It they have the right one, I think I will drive there and pick it up instead of waiting a week for delivery..

No sign of dog or pups yet.. still haven't given up hope..

Jim, I am just about ready to come up to your house and assist in the search for Dora....... I hope she returns soon. Perhaps Gus is the reason for her departure?

I am finally seeing a few Black Krim tomatoes ripening out there........ it is about time!

Alternator on the van died today....... just in time for school to start! Good thing my kids walk!

Had yet ANOTHER interview today........ and since I have no more nibbles I hope I land this job..... we need it.

That is about it on this end.

Hi guys :)
jim, just be careful crawling around Ollie. I just saw a shooting star. Nand wished for Doras safe return.
good luck Miss.
the horses are doing well. I found a super nice girl on cl. She is only 20min away. Had an ad up fornsome tack for the new horse (Thunder) is what is sticking. We really clicked. And she I vited me to come riding on her farm any time she is going out. Thunders only issue is trailers. We did find one thag we can use anytime we want. I think I M going to ask if it can sit at our house for a bit. That way I can see what I can do to work with him. I think I might park it in hos fence, and leave treats inside. The new horsey friend would like trailer rides along with us to go to trails in exchange for my visits. Sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.
Chickens are well. I will be very soon making choices to downsize for winter. I will be selling in only pairs unless the roos for some weird reason go first.
My poor Ammo (gsp) has an absess on his cheek. Thank you chesse. I will be making a vet run tomorrow. I have been able to keep it open. But he seems to need some antibiotics to help it along.
not much else new here. I will be on 12's for two weeks. And can't seem to find a replacement for Sydney's b-day on Tuesday. Hope I won't have to stay u til 7. She would be sad. And so would I.

Cuties, you are doing the right thing with keeping a trailer around and working with your new horse. I don't think the trail of treats will work though, but what do I know? I have assisted many times with getting horses into trailers when they did not want to go in. It is a lot of work, takes a lot of time, and you have to keep doing it over, and over, and over until they no longer care. My friend and I took over two hours to get a horse into a trailer once, we worked with the pace of the horse. It was a very nice outcome vs scaring the horse into the trailer and then they associate the trailer with negativity. All about the positive reinforcement. :)

Wow it was a sow day on here!

Cuties.... a trick my Uncle used to desensitize horses to things that spooked them was this.... Start blindfolding them for a few minutes at a time and reward them after. When they take to the blindfold well start walking with them with the blindfold on and reward them after. Most horses take to this fairly quickly. Then you can start walking them in and out of the trailer. After a few tries take the blindfold off in the trailer.(If you can do it from outside the trailer) Reward after each successful attempt. I helped break 2 of trailer fear this way. It also works for other things they are afraid of.

Bl4.... A Dora hunting party! Hope you get the job!

Night All!

good morning,

have to take Kalib to work in a few minutes.. he passed his driving exam, now he has to do the DMV thing and get his license .. we went through all this a couple of years ago.. back then he wasn't interested in driving.. now it is a different story,, he must be growing up..

, hope you get a job.. so does your DH ..

I don't think Gus chased Dora away.. he was very protective of her..

cars know exactly when to break down at the most inappropriate times..

If you are going to trailer break a horse.. once you make the attempt to get him into the trailer, you have to follow through with it.. do not work at it and then take a break and come back a little later..
that will only reinforce his reluctance because he won the battle.. now he know what to do to avoid it next time..

BTW, I never use treats to train an animal.. If they trust you treats are not needed..

and if two people are working on the horse,, they both have to be of the same mind..
