I have serious issues with these type of events. We have one where they drop the chicken off of the roof of something. I've never been to it, but there are people online always looking for chickens to be donated. They are living things, not items to be caught and taken home if you don't have experience or a place to keep them. Not to mention the bio security issues it presents to unknowing chicken keepers. I would have taken that chicken away from that kid and made sure to tell the parents what idiots they were. If that was a dog or cat being drug around like that wouldn't someone say something? Wouldn't people be appalled?

good afternoon,, wasted most of the day.. some of it I spent with bro Dave.. we took a walk through the woods looking for his tree stand ladder.. I think he picked it up this spring,, he doesn't remember if he did or not .. nothing like sending two senile old farts into the woods like that ..

the farmer cut all the oats down around us.. the alfalfa coming up looks real good..
I am happy that he planted alfalfa, finally.. now we should have a real nice looking extended "lawn" all around us for a few years to come..

I heard about that game of tossing the chickens off of a roof.. seems a bit extreme to me..
sort of reminds me of the episode of WKRP when Wes Nessman released a bunch of cage raised turkeys from a helicopter over a parking lot ..

yesterday Annie rescued a chick and 5 eggs from a guinea nest.. today we have 5 keets..
Gus actually was carrying one around in his mouth.. did it no harm.. it was totally wet, though.. I don't know if it was because it had just hatched or if Gus slobbered all over it.. an hour in the hatcher and if fluffed up real nicely ..

Jewel looks a bit like a rooster to me.. need a picture of him/her without the arms wrapped around it ..

I think I mentioned that there would be great memories of this chase..

My wife had a couple at her business today. They were going out west. Their pets were with them.........yep 2 chickens in the back seat with chicken diapers on!

What a cute picture of Jewel and Kody. I do have to agree with BBP. I think using live animals for entertainment like this is disgusting. I know Kody is going to give Jewel a good home but what about all of the other kids. Did they even go over the correct way of catching or holding a chicken. Last year our neighbors kid caught a pig at the fair. I never did go see it. I think things like this should be banned.

Cuties. Your new horse is beautiful. Just thought I would share this with you and any other horsey people in the group. Www.giddyupflix.com it is like Netflix but all horse related dvd's. I've been a member for years. You can never learn to much especially safe horse handling etc.

Well looks like it's time for bed. This smartphone sucks up my Data and I'm tired of giving AT&T my money !

good evening,
one day out of chicken's life to run in a catch and keep contest is no real hardship on the chicken.
I have been to swaps and saw chickens being carried like that by adults all over the area until they decided to go home.. and I have seen them carried in sacks, too..

If you were there and it bothered you so, then you could have given a crash course to the offending party and showed him the right way to do it..

like I said, it is not the end of the world.. lighten up..

Hi All!

I have mixed feeling about the chicken chase thing. I know my chickens have had workouts at least as hard when I had to catch them for what ever reason. I know lots of farmers that carry them by their legs for at least short distances. Do I care to do it that way? No, but I have. Jim, that sack thing really is a good way to carry chickens. It's dark and keeps the pretty calm and the sides are soft so they seldom get hurt. My uncle used to do that all the time, so did one of my neighbors.

Nothing new here.

Pretty sure she said some were being dragged on the ground, being held by their legs and didn't survive. I can tie a volunteers legs to the back of my car and drag them around slowly "for just one day". People have no empathy. My children have been taught to respect all living things (except ticks and mosquitos) and to think about how they would want to be treated before abusing someone/something.

I would think that chickens are pretty tough. They are a prey animal and odd ways of getting carried should not bother them, neither should the chase.

The assumption was made that the chickens did not survive; we have no idea if they did or not.

Not everyone views chickens at the same level as their as their dog or cat. We eat chickens, not our cats and dogs.

Just my thoughts.
