Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Morning to all. I think that mean dog would do well in a place like on the PBS video where they live outside and tend to the flocks. I'm sure with it's freedom, it would prolly work out alright. However that is about the only situation that would work for a dog like that..in my opinion.

I was gonna candle last night and didn't get er done....so tonight, I guess will be the night.

Hoping the snow melts today!

Yep, the FFF places aren't as numerous as they once were, and the few good ones that are left around here are 3 deep at the bar and quite a long wait for the food or a table.

yep, there is a place not too far from here called The Loading Zone just like that,, Plenty of lead time to have more drinks than you need before you get a table,,

that mean dog is a sister to my Frankie,, maybe from a different litter, though,,
I think she is way too old to introduce her into a flock or herd ..
trouble is, around here there are not that many large flocks or herds of anything for these dogs to watch over.. except maybe my chickens.. LOL..

my Shadow watches over me.. even barks at Annie's car when she drives in,,..

Annie keeps saying, "you are going to keep her, aren't you ?"
to tell the truth, yes, if someone would want to take either one of the big dogs ..

yeah,  but I'm worth the trip ,,

Yeeeeeees.

All was amazing as always at the swap :) I met a couple of people for sLes. And took home two SLW, 1 Sumatra, and 2 guinea.
Terri was bright and early! And I never got to see jj :(

Jim, I tend to agree. When a dog is to that point :(

Hope you are all having a great weekend! !

Just fired up the Weber for some Venzun burgers with grilled onions.....couple of those and I'm good to go.

Doing a little bit of celebrating tonight.

Did anyone go to the Jefferson Fairgrounds today for the swap? Birdman's Aunt and I went down there and found nothing of interest.Lots of baby chicks and ducklings. Does anyone know someone selling European Wigeons and a female Hooded Megansor. Just let me know. Thanks. Everyone have a great night.

and the Cheesehead thread avocadoeggs & birdmansmom! Glad to have you join us. Avocado, I would not recommend going to Tractor Supply for chicks, especially if you order their assorted pullets. Those are usually hybrids called red stars or black stars or something to that effect. They are production breeds meant to pump out eggs fast and are burned out by 1 1/2 years, then die shortly afterward. Unless you want to send them to freezer camp, I don't think they are the best breed to start out with. But that is just my opinion.

I guess the best thing you can do is decide what you want the birds for (eggs, pets, meat, etc.) and then research the different breeds for which suits your purpose best. If you let us know what you are looking for, we will try to steer you in the right direction. And as Jim said, we might be able to hook you up with some of the breeds you are looking for.

Yes Jim, you are completely correct. I do know you better than that and should have known better. It was a knee-jerk reaction and I am still sorry about it. I have no excuse.

So Cind, do you think you will be bringing the machine along, or just the tanks? I hope it isn't too hard to transport for you.

Congrats on the new birds cuties, and congrats to Terri for adopting out a pup! Great news.

And what exactly are we celebrating Mellie? The new job, or something else???????

good afternoon/early evening

quiet here ..

came down to check the bator,, all is well,, 99.5F and 39%RH

I am having one of those weird computer days,, earlier I checked in here and none of the posts had any text,, I logged off and came back on and now the post numbers just say, "of 53567" but no number of what post it is,,
this happens every so often,,

I started cleaning the hatcher inside,,
took a hard loon at the hatching trays,, thinking I should make the front and rear side rails higher,
as tight as they fit in there, the new chicks still manage to squeeze through and end up way down on the floor inside the hatcher,,
they don't get injured, but they get themselves mixed up with chicks from other batches..
sometimes I have eggs from 3 or 4 different people hatching at the same time,, they do like to get their own chicks back..

Avocado...where south of the border...I am not far from Monroe...and then orangeville is the other side of the border. I will maybe have chicks in three weeks.

So this happened... I tslked him down in price and then ordered my turner...it comes Monday so will have to do manual until then. Had a nice visit with hens and Roos Friday and she shared some eggs from her flock and we put in some from ours. We will see if the BCM is doing his job or not. So from my flock added some pure maran eggs( think they are for from my BCM hen or the cuckoo hen maybe) and some pretty green/blue Ee eggs so hoping for olive eggers.

Think I need to rehome the BCM roo...he is gorgeous but has been attacking the kids. I correct him and he respects me enough but kids can't even get close,to try to,correct him. He is half their size!

But we are getting good egg turn around now with the longer days. 10 of 12 hens laying most days.

Go Bucky!! Fingers crossed

Kristi, try locking him I solitary for a week. He may change. It is also that time of year:/
if you do rehome him, Terri is looking pretty hard for one. However I think she would prefer cucko if you had an extra :) I brought two of her hens home to make her some more OE. Because I can't spare my Marans in any other way :)

Art projects this evening. Sooo much fun.
