Birdman... I am so jealous of those morels!! I can't walk long enough to get them anymore. DH offered to go look.... but ...well.. he'd probably step on more than he found

the great outdoors is not really his forte.

Cuties.... so sorry for Blake

Guess that's it, the girl's eggs seemed kind of small this week.

Night All.

good morning,

3 puppies so far since 7 AM..
Frankie would not go into her coop.. instead, she dug two HUGE holes next to it.. I guess it is her interpretation of a den.. I hope the rain holds off until she is all done ..

I can't get her to go inside her coop or our house..

found a dead guinea rooster near the house this morning,,
no marks or sign of fowl play. (no pun intended)

The previous owner has one of these in the guinea coop.

I am thinking of moving it to my shed and using it as a brooder for chicks. I can just block off the ramp, put the heat lamp over the nest box area and keep them inside the little coop part when they are little. Once they start to get big and feather out, they can go in the lower part for more room. I can wrap it in plastic or a moving blanket to keep down the drafts when they are big enough to go in the lower part.

Any opinions?

Sunday almost noon all...yep wyo that will work as long as you have it inside another building and have a fairly small number of chicks.

Glad you got Ollie fired up Jim...my 8N is still dead. I should just trade it on a compact and be done with it.

Windy as heck here today.

I agree with Bigz. It would make a nice brooder. If it is going to be inside a building & you wait until the chicks are feathered out, you won't need to wrap the run in anything. As long as they can navigate the ramp (better put more slats in it closer together), they can go back into the coop part if they get chilled. Hopefully the weather will get warm enough soon to not have to worry about getting chilled.

Just make certain the heat lamp is completely secure to whatever you attach it to. Or even better for in that little coop, you might want to try one of these. I bought one of these a few years ago & use it all the time. I have used it for rabbits, chicks, sick adult chickens & doves. It is hard plastic so it is easy to clean/sanitize and it works great with wood chips. And it is much safer than a heat lamp in enclosed areas such as that little coop. I've never tried it with chicks less than a week old though, but when I do use it, it is the only heat source I use.

This one is small, only 9x12", but they do make larger ones for cats & dogs if you are going to have a lot of chicks. Otherwise, if I were you, I'd look into those overhead brooder heaters like the Brinsea to use in that coop. For some reason I just would not trust a heat lamp in one of those little prefabs. The "wood" they use for them is more like kindling.

Jim, anymore puppies?
they are not coming as fast as they were, she just had one about 20 minutes ago.. that makes it 7 so far.. I quit saying, that should be all.. I thought she was finished at 5 ..

Brent, after all the research and repair I have done on Ollie, I'll bet we could get your Fjiord going.

new gas, maybe a new set of points. clean up the carb and test for spark,, I am an expert at the latter, now ..

did I mention how helpful the guy at O' 'Reiley's was ? he called some kind of hotline and got the condenser part number for me.. had ONE in stock.. just enough for me..

I would have bought a compact tractor, but they are EXPEN$IVE .. even for the used ones..
