Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Fish Fry Friday and the outside cooker going strong is life at it's best here! Welcome to all the new folks and hope you can make our annual bash. Good to read and see so many good things going on with everyone, and am really happy for the new people enjoying chickens for the first time...pretty soon you will be an expert and can help others....thanks for the input bl4...Know body knows the city official agenda better than you! I'm having tons of probs with the site also..just sayin.

have fun...bigz

i still maintain it is a byc problem,, doesn't it seem strange that so many people are suddenly having the same problem on a specific site ?

my prodigal guineas came home today,, very hungry and thirsty,, maybe now they will stick close to the hand that feeds them ,,

the call ducks are really liking their new digs.. swimming pool gets used a lot.. we have chairs set up outside the pen just so we can watch them,,

since I stole the goose's pool, Annie made me go to Mayderds and pick up another one,
it is called a multi use mixer.. there is a small size and a larger size.. I have the larger sized ones.
$15.oo .. the old one is at least 6 years old, maybe older.. I had two of them, but I use them in the winter time also.. and when it is freezing outside and you run over one with the tractor while plowing snow, they tend to crack..

I have all the blades off the lawn mower,, I have them sharpened .
now I have to repair one of the flanges that hold the blade onto the shaft..
I found every thread tap larger or smaller than the one that I need.. and the funny thing there is, I have about four of the 3/8" taps.. think I could locate at least ONE of them ??

Yeah, I decided to come to the bash. Will you explain the white elephant thing? And as I am to understand I am to bring a dish and my own drink? Anything else. I have GPS in the car so will just pop in the address-I am directionally challenged so I could still get lost. My son does not want me to come because of the kooks on the internet these days....I told him to not worry, chicken people are not kooks....he made fun of me. Oh, well.
Bring your camping gear, RV, or bedding if you plan to sleep in the cabin. Bring food & beverage for all your meals (except for the pitch-in Saturday afternoon where everyone brings a dish to share). White Elephant is a gag-related WRAPPED gift exchange game. Bring money for the raffle and a, unwrapped raffle item if you have one (anything chicken related).

Funny, there are alot of 2/3 letter things I don't know on here.
SO=significant other
ET=if FrenchToast is talking ET is her husband she calls him EggToast

Everything is good here (and we are going to the bash). We are getting all packed up tonight and leave for Indianapolis tomorrow afternoon for the 500, so my dad will be tending the "zoo". I usually fill everything up for him, so I'll get up early tomorrow morn to get all of that done.

I had wondered what ET was :)

Wave to me while you're in Indy, I'm about 20 mins from the track on the west side!

good morning,
I decided that today is lawn mower repair day ; if it kills me..
I will go to F&F and buy yet another 3/8" tap ..
gotta modify the flanges that hold the blades onto the shaft ..

I might get one more sharpening out of these blades.. then it is bight the bullet time and $pring for new blades.. HeII, I could hire someone to mow my lawn for what blades cost ..

today, this afternoon, my two female pygmy goats are coming .. I really don't want them so badly, but as a favor I will take them.. The lady is too sick to care for them,, she has some lung issues.

I was going to have my cuppa outside this morning, but hay, it is still chilly out there..

I have eggs due to hatch today; if they are in fact chicken eggs. if they are duck eggs it will be awhile yet,, JimP just drops them off when I am not here,, then I do the guessing game of what they are.. last time it was duck .. then I call him and he says, "Oh, I don't want them, why don't you just keep them ?"
now THAT is a true enabler ..

Hey, lawn mower repair guy, Our grass is knee high because my son hit a rock in the already too long grass, went to change out the blades, and stripped the housing bolt thingamiggig. So, he is not anywhere mechanical, and we have to take this stupid mower in to have it repaired. Guess it is a good thing that there are people like DS, otherwise we would have a few more people unemployed., Maybe we could borrow your goats to eat down our lawn, as it is not going to be repaired until end of next week

. We have a shed on the property that we are going to turn into a coop, hope it does not fall apart after we get it together. It faces West. We will have to put a chicken door in, does it matter which direction the chicken door faces, and it does have to regular size windows on either side. They are casement windows. Do I need to replace them with another kind? Just guessing it looks to be about 6 X 8.

As long as they can open to let some fresh air in on hot days, they should be fine. I would attach some hardware cloth to the outside of the windows to keep predators from trying to break in.
I would put the chicken door on the south side to prevent any inclement weather from getting in. It might help keep the snow from collecting there too much also. IMHO (in my humble opinion).

Thanks for the info, I will keep it in mind. The back of the shed is pretty sheltered with the fence and trees about 3-4 ' away. If I put the chicken door on the south side, it will get alot of snow piled up I think. Have to think about it. hardware cloth sounds good, I will do that. For the inside, how many roost should I have and if I was going to have outside laying boxes, which side would be better?

Roughly 1 foot per bird but they like their space so I'd at least double that if it were me. As for the boxes, if you are going to access them from outside, put them on whichever side is convenient for you. I'd try to avoid the north side though.

Can you post a pic of this shed?
