Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Aaaarrrrgggghhh! The government tends to screw most things up - AND adds more costs and red tape to boot. I'm willing to bet this is just the beginning of the hoops we'll have to jump through. They don't often let go once they get a toe hold.
You are right about that last statement.

Hi All!

Firstchick.... A coon can rip through a screen like tissue paper! You need something much heavier.

Well, I guess to those of you who are going to show birds, you could put a sign in your yard asking predators not to kill your birds until after the show.

good rainy morning,

what I did was buy a cheap wooden screen door, then add the wire mesh to it,, I used 1/2 inch,,
lay the door on something nice and flat and staple the mesh good and tight,
doing so will keep the door square and it reinforces the frame..

make sure the door fits the opening first ..

No rain here yet - I'm hoping it holds off until tonight. Maybe I can plant some more before the free watering happens.

All of the BLRWs are now integrated in the coop and out of the tractor. I'm going to have to send half of them to freezer camp in a few weeks. I'm praying that most of the new batch of chicklets are hens! Time will tell.

That's a really good idea Jim. The only thing I'd really add is make sure the stapled side is facing out, otherwise I'd be afraid they (preds) might push the screen & hardware cloth (wire mesh) inward & the staples might let loose if the wood is soft. I guess they could pull the cloth off toward them too.

Some screws with washers every so often would help to reinforce the mesh to the door. Just a thought.

Raining here...hard to believe, eh!

Did you here Robin, that Matt Flynn was traded to the New England deflaters? Oh Boy...seeing cheater boy has to sit out a few games, they need a QB.

In regards to the light bulb firstchic....the watt size depends on the size of your brooder....it's best to set it up with a thermometer and figure out what you need....it has to be the old standard type light bulb the new florescent type don't give off enough heat. I run 100's, 75's , and 60's depending on how old the peeps are....but the thermometer is critical to have so you know what the temp actually is....in my opinion.

Peace...bigz
