Thank you Jim for clearing that up. Sorry all to sound so ignorant I promise any ignorance is purely unintentional lol I am a newbie but I have done a ton of reading apparently I should have just found you guys first. So then just to reiterate Jim when selling eggs so long as they get refridgerated then it doesn't matter if they are fertile or not?
I was not intending to pick on you,, I was just pointing out that there is a lot of misinformation on byc..

it seems that some people have a bad experience, and rather than disect the causes, they just jump to any conclusion.. often the wrong one,,

then they pass this on, and before you know it , many unsuspecting newbies are accepting it as fact..

@jvls1942
No worries Jim I didn't feel picked on at all and I appreciate being set right. I know there is a ton of incorrect info out there that is super misleading especially to us newbies.

Thanks irish.

Jim, I wish things were still done like that more often. Such a waste in packaging nowadays...
you haven't lived until you have ridden a bicycle 6 blocks, across two sets of railroad tracks and uphill for half the distance with a half dozen eggs in a paper bag ..

omg Jim you are making me chuckle...
sorry bout the lice Cindy... Sevin saved us... still a royal pain to capture them birds and dust em up!
Mosquitoes humming on a honeysuckle vine.... making me itch... have enough beans frozen time to pull them up, The squash vines are taking over... Found a recipe for cucumber salsa, gotta do something with all these surplus cukes... none are small would have to do slicers and I always have had limp cukes when canning and pickling... not my forte. Getting to be fall hearing the crickets chirping at night.

good evening,
It is raining ever so gently right now.. this should green up things again..

Yesterday I drove to Oxford and picked up 6 black production egg pullets ..
after looking them over today,, One of them appears roosterish ..
If he is smart, he will never crow, or off with his head .. and I have suspissions of another one that could also be one.. they are young and hard to tell for sure..

Momgill , it doesn't matter if slices are floppy, as long as they taste good..

My mom used to make slippery jims out something,, I think she took extra large cukes and scooped the seeds out, slice them the long way and make a sweet sour pickle juice..
I should have paid more attention when I was growing up..
I will ask my older sisters if they know how they were made..

Hi All!

LOL Jim, I bet you sweated all the way home! Those old tires were bumpy. Lucky I just had to go 2 doors down, but they had a nasty dog.

Lucked out on the lice!

I thought I saw lice eggs on a couple of feathers I picked up. On closer look, with better glasses, it was just that flaky coating from when they molt. In a few weeks I should worm them anyway. Looks like molt is starting so that should work out.

Night All!

So, I got some new girls last night along with their buddy boy. He is a Bantam and a right pretty boy he is. So, the girls are 3 cochin (1 buff, 1 silver and 1 dk grey), a Barred Rock and one that looks sorta like a barred rock but not quite.another one that I don't know. We moved the four hens we had in the tractor coop over to the RIR pen, alot of upset chickens last night. All seem to be doing fine this morning. The lady gave me a 10 hole nest set up that is really great. My Deleware wanted to roost and kept flying upon the top of the fence until I caught her and put her in the coop on the roost, where she stayed the rest of the night. I am continue to can pickled beets and I have one more batch of beans to pickle and will be done for a while, I want to get corn for reg corn and corn relish. Saw a green tomato relish I want to try. Good thing I have a 20 to 30 minute rest while they are in the water bath (beets) this is hard work for an ole lady.

I called my youngest sister about the slippery jims recipe..
I guess she didn't pay any more attention to what Mom was doing than I did .
I thought it was watermelon rind that Mom used.. Sister said no..but remember, she didn't pay any attention ..

I looked up some recipes and found that cukes and watermelon rind are used..

we ae done with our beans,, they are ready to be picked again,, nobody is showing up for them..
what a shame to not use them,,
