I need some help if you would please. lol thought I'd go straight to the incubating king. So my DH2B ordered me Sicilian Buttercup eggs last week without me knowing and told me a few days later. Now come the questions... They showed up two days earlier than they were scheduled. Which is nice, but they're in rough shape. I know hatching eggs are a gamble but we do plan on trying to talk to the seller. The add said both 11+(headline?) and 16+(in the description). The seller is newer but had a pretty good rating and good reviews. However they didn't mention a few things, almost all of the eggs appear to me to be pullet eggs(Will this effect my hatch?) Also the eggs seem quite porous could this be from being pullet eggs? They did ship farther than I liked DH2B doesn't quote know all the chicken stuff I have absorbed yet.
Okay so the description didn't say how they would be packaged. They were packaged like this: egg carton cut in half, eggs wrapped in strip of jean fabric in one half of the carton(all fine) other half two wrapped in jean fabric(one shattered) and four wrapped in a bit of paper towel(two shattered) each half wrapped in bubblewrap in flat rate box filled with shredded newspaper. Okay now the broken eggs were not in the same side of the carton and the box was completely intact and undamaged and at least one of the broken eggs was in the center of the large box but I believe two were. Have to look at pics. Okay now back to my questions. Sorry for the rant.

I know they were shipped roughly. About half the eggs left have air cells that are detached and broken. Which is sad but I know it happens. The question is can they still be viable? And what can I do to give them a better chance? Also there seem to be three or more of the eggs that I can't see air cells in admittedly it could be my own error as the shells seem to have been spread unevenly over some of the eggs being noticeably thicker... Any help? Are these eggs scrambled in the shell? I hope everyone in WI can help. I really want to get at least a few of these to hatch.

any help would be appreciated thank you all

step one, take pictures and send to the seller..

I don't know how large of an egg that breed of chicken lays,, they might not be pullet eggs,
I would mention to the seller that they look like pullet eggs..

take all of the unbroken eggs and put them into an egg carton in a cool spot.. not in the refrigerator.. on the basement floor.. do not turn them as you would normally do.. just let them rest for a couple of days.. air cell side up.. pointy end down..

in the mean time set up your incubator..

these eggs were definitely not packaged correctly..

with all things considered, I would not anticipate a high % hatch rate..

ask for replacement of ALL the eggs.. and demand that they be packaged better..

but go ahead and give these eggs a go.. maybe you will luck out..

what part of the country did these eggs come from ?

........jiminwisc.......

Ok, everytime I read a thread on here, I get more questions......What is a pullet egg? Does that mean they just come from young hens that are just starting to lay? How does one tell the difference. I have a hen that will lay a large egg one day, and a smaller egg the next day, and she is almost 2 years old.

a pullet egg is from a hen that is just starting to lay.. they usually are about half the size of a normal egg.. they will gradually become larger with each egg she lays..

they are not good for incubating.. usually just not fertile..

your 2 year old is just inconsistent,, and not laying pullet eggs..
If I were collecting eggs to hatch from her, I would avoid the small ones.. that is just me,,
