Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Before the jokes start....... the DEER was quartered, not the daughter..... ;)

I finally bought one of those vacuum sealers..... I have wanted one for sooooooooo long! What an investment! I had that deer packaged up super quick! LOVE it!

I have been checking up here daily, just have nothing to post. Super busy with work and friends...... I have never been so busy!

Going to do the Maribel Caves run with Amyable on Saturday. It sounds like fun!!!!

good morning,

congrats to the deer slayer..

update on the chicken harvest..
the smallest one was 4 1/2 pounds then there were a few at 5 to 5 1/2 pounds a few at 6 tp 6 1/2 pounds and one at 7 1/2 pounds.. lots of nice yellow fat on them all ..
the old timers used to render that fat.. I rendered some from some geese one time.. I used it just for frying eggs, etc..

I rendered it using an electric waffle maker.. I loaded it up and tilted it with one corner low over a pan, the renderings dribbled into the pan,, worked really neat ..

I have to mow grass today,, then I have a week to finish my new plucker..

tried finding flange bearings locally,, they are asking way too much $$$ for them ..

Hello everyone,

Please forgive me, I don't mean to butt in on this thread, but I just have a quick question...

Anyone in central or northern wisconsin have any turken/naked necks, or show girls for sale or trade?

Also.. All three of my 12 month old laying hens haven't produced an egg in two weeks. But I'm thinking it has something to do with the change in weather. We had frost and 80 degree weather here last week in one week! It's crazy. Anyone else dealing with no eggs? This will be our first winter with chickens here, sure hope we don't lose any due to the cold.

Have a good evening everyone!

Sara

Sara I'm in antigo so I assume our weather has been relatively close. Ever since that last hot streak a couple weeks ago my production has slowed dramatically. And molting season is upon us as well. I'll get back to you on the turkens tomorrow. How old were you looking for?

Welcome Sara!
Not budding in at all! I have a 4H friend that raises them. Feel free to pm if you would like their info. They are located near FdL.
Yes, the dreaded molt is here!
