yup, I still have his number in my cell phone too.. wishful thinking I guess.. hate to let go..

you new people didn't know him,, but you would have liked him.
I still have his number in my cell too. I remember the last time he called me. I was out by the chickens. I can't believe he has been gone a year. I sure miss his huge bear hugs and his laugh. You sure hit the nail on the head Jim & Brent. Hate to let go. And only the good die young.

They won't eat grapefruit peels but they might eat the membranes.

Here is an extensive list of toxic plants. I think it is really overboard as it lists apples & other fruits, but they are referring to the seeds (in apples), which contain trace amounts of cyanide, and the plant parts. If you fed your birds nothing but apple seeds, then yes, they might die, but I have dumped a bucket of apples out for my birds and they are all still kicking just fine. Elderberries are also on the list for the plants & seeds, but I have quite a few of them planted in my chicken run (along with apple trees). Again, none of my birds have croaked and they love eating the berries, although sometimes they will get the thinners. Maybe that is what they mean by toxic, causing an unwanted side effect as opposed to being lethal. I suggest you use the list as a starting point and use your best judgement. As with most things, everything in moderation. HTH

except for this last batch of cornish X, my chickens always went nuts for apples.. If they heard one fall off the tree, they would race to get to it first ..

when I eat an apple, all that I throw away is the stem,, I got into the habit in my deer hunting years.. I didn't want to throw a core onto the ground, and I also did not want to carry it around with me,,
the arsenic in the seeds hasn't killed me yet..

the chickens are laying 6/6 just about every day..

I see that cabbage is supposed to be harmful. Been feeding mine cabbage all along. I will continue to as well.
Like I said, use your best judgement. I have fed mu chickens cabbage too. It causes me more harm than it does my birds. Can you say thinners, boys & girls?
