Yeah Jim, it is a thermal cube.....I forgot the name. Man, I don't know. The heater is pointed straight to the back of the coop and the cube is on the south wall....DS is coming home from being on the road for a couple of weeks, so maybe he can figure it out. Will it cause a fire hazard being hooked up directly? It is now 33 degrees in there? The back wall is the East wall in case you needed to know. When the cube is hooked up it only heats to like 23 .
Not Familiar with the cube myself,but..
I assume you have a thermometer in the coop. Is it hanging on an outside wall? Could the air temp in the coop be 32+ degrees but the surface of wall the thermometer is on is 22 degrees?
Just guessing here.
Has this same set up worked in the past?

I would love to go to the swap in Elkhorn, I'll have to Google it. Thanks for the info Cind.

Yesterday we made our way down towards Chicago for Dave Ramsey's Smart Mo ey Conference which was great! Spent an hour or so before we left patching up my black oegb Mickey. Think he was on the receiving end of a little bit too much pecking order garbage. Looks like someone grabbed his comb and yanked tearing it a bit in the back by his head. It also had some damage to the third and fourth points although nothing much visible it bled profusely after we brought him in to get a better look and patch him up. The only way we were finally able to stop the bleeding was pressure. He was such a good boy, but I was pretty worried with the amount of blood he lost as the blood was just running down his face. We put blue kote over it and set up a crate for him and Minnie in the cooler for a couple days of healing. We made sure he was eating and drinking but I haven't put on vaseline since BC I've been worried that it could start the bleeding again. Should I put Vaseline on tomorrow or would waiting a bit more be better? I'm a bit worried because tonight when I checked him the part of his comb that was not covered in blue kote seemed quite pale(compared of course to the normal color not the blue) would he be more prone to frost bite due to injury? Could it still be from the blood loss? Sorry he's just my baby and I worry because I admit some of my birds are more pets than others. Thank you guys for your help. I didn't mention it above but I suspect pecking order disputes since Minnie also has some very minor cuts to her small immature comb and they are the two smallest birds.

Idk if anyone will have any insights but I just thought about it and decided to ask: since moving to the cooler all 30 of our birds have stopped using the roosts, now the silkies have never roosted and their two hatch mates seldom have but I still thought it odd that only accounts for 8 of the 30 anyone have any insights? It's just such a funny sight walking in and all 30 are in three or four huddles or piles around the room has anyone else ever encountered this?

First winter I have had chickens. The thermostat ishanging in the middle of the coop, no wall hanging. It is baffling. We replugged the cube and now it works.
