Broodies aren't always aggressive when on a nest. It depends on the bird. How do I tell if I have a broody hen? I have a few that I find sitting on a few eggs in the nest box, but they do not fight me if I take them away. I would definitely let them raise the babies if I could do it that way.
Should I leave a couple of eggs in there for them to sit on then?Broodies aren't always aggressive when on a nest. It depends on the bird.
You might have broodies, or you might just be going in the coop when the girls are getting ready to lay an egg. A good way to tell the difference is to go in the coop after roost time to see if they are still on the nest or are roosting with the others.
If they are superglued to the nest, that is a good indication of a broody hen.![]()
I wouldn't because if they aren't sitting on them at night, the eggs will freeze & crack. I would toss some golf balls in there if you want.Should I leave a couple of eggs in there for them to sit on then?
