I'm doing the chick ordering again at work and last year I was ready to pull my hair out just a few weeks into it. People don't understand that breeds sell out. They come in wanting 2 of this, 3 of that, and when all of their breeds aren't available on the ship date they wanted their mind is blown. I'm thinking of just ordering 50 birds per week to have in the store and just saying people can reserve off of that list unless they want to order from sunnyside. I got so sick of trying to make this girl's 20 chick (4 breed) order work the other day I told her to just pick 5 more birds and call Murray Mcmurray. Anyone know how other locations do it?

I think F&F will order what you want, but I also think that they do the minimum of 25 per order.? I have been wrong once before, so maybe this is my second time.

I think I would make it a first come first served situation,
If you do not take orders ahead of time.. I would also make them pay when they order, to insure that you are not left holding un-picked-up chicks.

remember, the people getting chicks from you also have the option of ordering straight from Sunnyside..

you can't please all the people all the time, and some of them; never.

Jim do you mean farm and fleet? Idk about up there but down here there is a minimum of 5 of each breed or sex unless you only want one cockeral to go with pullets. Poults and ducklings you can order as few as one

the locals call it fleet/farm ..
I heard that it was being sold .
All I know is that the chicks are offered. I never saw anybody picking any up, though,
there is a feed store right at the corner where you turn into our F&F and they offer the Sunnyside chicks delivery right to them, and you pick them up from the feed store..
same price as going directly to Sunnyside, only better, because sunnyside sends their own truck with the chicks, No USPS bother or trouble...

Yep, BBP it's not right to have to be responsible for the orders not being filled on the hatcheries end. I would bulk order numbers of the most wanted chicks and not worry about the few others....like Jim said most require 25 chicks minimum order or premium shipping costs for less than a full order of 25. I don't think fleet even sells chicks anymore in C-ville because of the hassles they had with DOA etc..... on customer orders. It was the only way they sold them there in the past. They never had chick days or anything like that. Sunnyside is the best option around here for shipped chicks, even though the choices are limited. The prices are right.

Bring on the heat wave....Winter is about over!

We are a sunnyside delivery location. And it's nice because they pack individual boxes for each customer. Since they only have like 5 chicken breeds, it's easier to keep track of what's sold out on what days. I do like having Welp as a backup for meat birds, since Sunnyside sells out so fast. But, when you have a customer wanting rhode island reds and one wanting production reds on the same day or marans and barred rocks, it's hard to tell them apart. The hatchery usually puts little stickers with the breeds listed in the compartments of the box. So that helps. We also have a chick days in April. I have 360 chicks and 20 turkeys ordered so far. I may add 100 cornish rocks and some ducks. But we'll see.
I also don't understand why you wouldn't just order directly from the hatchery if you need 25+ chicks (other than from Sunnyside).

It is true, the choices are limited,

but for meaties and general good chickens it is adequate.

the people buying from the stores are often just buying on a whim ..

If they are serious chicken people, they know other ways and places to get their chicks .

I say, if they live in Wisc, and do not belong to the cheese heads, let them suffer .

it is pushing -5 below right now in the Wausau area.

the forecast looks promising.

Now I am going to go make myself a hot fish sandwich out of some left over walleye from FFF ..

I talked to a guy from Sunnyside on the phone last year when I wanted to order my 100 meaties. He told me to order through the feed store because then the chicks do not go through the USPS ..
by Sunnyside bringing them directly to the store, they have better control of the chicks in transit and far fewer DOA's .

I have an order for some butchered meaties already for this year.. so I will be ordering a 100 ..

If I can swing it, I want to get 100 production egg layers, too..

Lol glad I'm a member of cheeseheads lol anyway ours in Janesville gets called both fleet and farm / farm and fleet. But its a Blains. They get the chicks from Cackle and last year we had great luck all the chicks were super healthy that we got. They also order extras of certain breeds especially this year. I was told BC Janesville just approved a flock of four-I think it was but the problem is that like a lot of places you have to get a minimum of 5 per breed, by ordering extras people can come in and choose what they want and stay under the 4 limit.

We also found out that TSC in Delevan and probably other places as well are getting their first chicks on the 29th, of February. Here goes the chicken math but I can't wait to see what they get. We have already ordered 5 speckled Sussex pullets, and 5 St run white rocks from f&f
We are hoping to pick up a couple extra chicks if they have the extras we want when we pick up the others, a couple EE(we have four of their EE from last year and not only are they all different colors but they all lay a different shade of blue, blue green, or light olive and one of them started laying at 17 weeks), and a salmon favorelle would be really cool too as I've heard good things about them.

Just got done catching up on all the days posts. Spent the day in Madison with my daughter the birthday girl. Looks like I should get on the ball and order some chicks soon.
