Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Very nice brooder, Jim!

I have two wooden boxes with lids. A big one for chicks and a smaller one for quail. The large one is a hand made that I picked up at a rummage sale and the smaller is an old hand made toy box I picked up for free. Both boxes have hinged lids that have been cut in two. One side for the light fixture and one side for access. I prop the lids open a bit as necessary to control the temp and vent.

I only have 8 chicks in the big box right now, which gives me room to keep some jugs of water nice and warm when it's super cold. I have a couple of buns who consistently dump their water so I give them bottle waterers - I use the small box to thaw these when I switch them out. Can't waste any of that energy!

Good luck with yours, @kristip - please share what you end up making!

Hope everyone went and cast their vote today...it's our right....

I voted in the late morning and the only people there were the poll workers and they were busy eating goodies before lunch. I was only number 19. Maybe they should do it the same time as the primary election. It would save money and more people would vote.

On another note... The hubs had neck/spine surgery yesterday and all went well. I brought him home today and he's taking it easy. He'll be home off work for a month. Please keep his recovery in your prayers!

Gonna do some poking around this weekend and hopefully get my hands on 8-10 more hens around 6-8 months old. I have people wanting eggs like crazy and my birds just aren't enough. I've been wanting more for a while so this helps my justify it

Hi All!

Irish... hope hubby heals quick!

I didn't vote today, nothing local that needed my attention! lol At least nothing I knew about. We haven't been getting the paper so hard to keep up on things.

I did make it to get feed today but that was about it.

My, the birds have been talkative lately! I go down to feed and close up and I get an ear full!

Night All!

good luck on the chicken hunt. If you run into a good deal, and they have extras , let me know.

the rooster was crowing a couple of days ago.. He sure sounds pathetic ..

we watched the dog show last night, the one dog I thought was a Maremma turned out to be a Great Pyrenese . thank god ..

I still didn't widen the driveway, now I am wondering if it is worth the bother..
but, we know that after this warm spell, there will be frozen slush ruts ..

There's a lady in town here with blue and black orpingtons hatched in October and as bad as I'd like some I won't spend what she wants. Only sold in pairs for 25 dollars. I don't want a rooster so that makes it too pricy for me.

I'm south of Janesville but I have some birds I'm trying to move I have four silver laced wyandottes and two Isa browns if you're interested all turn a year in May. They're laying great just too many birds and we're butchering our wyandotte cockeral. Could maybe meet up in Madison/Sun Prairie if you want to wait until we go to get our cat fixed.

Also trying to rehome a white silkie pair and what I believe is a bbr oegb.

The oegb is a cockeral sorry I forgot to write that he will be 1 year in May. He's very good to the ladies but we have too many cockerals and not enough small ladies to go around. If you are still interested I can take some new pictures of him today. He did suffer some frost bite to his comb this winter despite every preventative measure we could try. He is however, healthy, normal and recovering very well, but he may lose a couple points from his comb.
