Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

hi,

I got 5 eggs by noon, still have to check one more time before I lock the doors.

I took Ollie for a spin, we back graded the driveway,
scraped up enough loose granite to fill in some low spots.

the new chicken feeder I made is working very well.
am thinking of building one that will meter out finely ground oats and corn.
I have a couple of designs in mind..

Jim, you sound a lot like my husband. He loves designing things to suit our purposes.

Fish fry Friday again already, I can't wait for decent weather and the outside cooker again.

Hope Rudy heals up ok Cind. Dang cars!

Welcome to the forum brink...the only potosi I know is snake hollow....and I know it well!

Been in the woods the last two days cutting wood...amazing that it is dry enough already to get around without messing things up.

Congrats Irish..sounds like she found a keeper...Never saw that name Heli before...how's that pronounced, if I may ask?

Hens are doing good here, and I will prolly collect a couple doz for the bator later this month, in plans for setting April fools day.

I probably made someone mad on FB today. They messaged me asking about chicks days where I work. I had posted that silkies were $5 when someone asked. Mostly because I got them from Ideal hatchery where we don't have a wholesale account and they charge shipping. So, she memessaged me again saying she doesn't understand my pricing because you can get them from a hatchery for less than $4. I was at lunch when I read this and already sick of chicken orders for the day. My reply was basically go ahead and order the minimum 30 that the hatchery requires so you can get that price. I haven't got an invoice yet, but they'll probably be $4. I was just too annoyed to be nice about it. Lol.

Does anyone know where I could find a couple easter egger or ameraucana chicks in southern Wisconsin? I want to add some colored egg layers. Chicken math is real!!

Hi All.

Rudy has his hind leg in a sling. looks kinda weird but keeps the weight off and the leg in place. He's been pretty quiet but did hobble outside to pee. Thanks for the concern.

Jim, when you start designing the feeder, consider putting a cone on the inside. This will help keep the food flowing to the holes and not setting in the bottom, center of the bucket. I did that with mine. You loose a little volume, but at lest it keeps flowing.

Night All.

I thought about the cone thing, but I have not figured out how to make one. of course, I haven't really got into planning real seriously yet. I have some flashing material that I could make a cone out of.

what did you use for a cone ?
.
If I do not add a cone, as long as I keep the feeder full, there will not be a problem with getting feed to the holes.

my biggest concern with the ground feed is "bridging"..

All doing good, I hope.

Wind blew down another few sections of fence a few days ago. I'm gonna be busy this spring as that's at least 5 8' wide panels that blew down in the last month or so. I might just replace the whole 200' run,as the fence has been here longer than the 21 years I've owned this place! Tired of rebuilding a section or two each year.
Planned on fixing the brakes on the wife's Silverado this weekend, but boss says I have to work. Good, now I'll have $ for brakes and a fence! Replacing metal brake lines is a pain, but,I gotta get this truck on the road as I have to have emissions tested to renew the plates in a week or two.
I also have a friend coming out to trim the horses hooves in a week,so I need the extra $ the weekend work will give me.
Oh,yeah,my chickens are doing good too!
