Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I just had a chick hatch with really small eyes. Does anyone know what causes this? I will admit, I did have 2 of my roosters daughters in the pen with him. But their mothers were totally unrelated. Could this be from inbreeding? They're not with him anymore, this is probably the last of the eggs I collected when they were still in that pen. So, if it's inbreeding, it shouldn't happen again.

Most likely it was a humidty/temp issue. If it happens again from the same breeding I would say it could be a genetic defect.

Hello from Wisconsin Dells! Ive owned chickens since we bought our f armette two years ago. I have recently was gifted a dozen chicks as well. Currently not pleased because it brings my grand total up to twenty! Lol I may be posting coop pictures and asking questions here if its okay with everyone. Thanks.

I'm up to 22 chickens with more in the incubator. The 11 chickens I was boarding have gone home so I can use the new coop for the littles. I want to cull some of the older hens who aren't laying very much but I don't want to send them to my freezer camp. Would anyone like some retired hens who free range? Good bug eaters anyway.

Also, the disabled vet I've been working with is no longer able to care for his animals so I am selling his bunnies. If anyone is interested I have both pet bunnies and meat bunnies. Some babies and more on the way. Right now mostly the bucks are for sale until I figure out which does are pregnant. He went a little crazy mating them at the end and I won't know which ones are pg for a few weeks.

Also have bunny and quail cages for sale.

PM me if interested!

good evening,

well, my first ever batch of caramel rolls turned out great.

I ate 3 of them for supper.

since my sister was so kind as to print the recipes for me, I am taking a pan of them to her house tomorrow morning .
Nothing like caramel rolls with a dab of butter on each bite chased with a good cuppa joe..

don't worry about me, I have a pill for it. .

Well Jim, I think that you've just added caramel rolls to your pancake breakfast! My mouth is drooling! Those paired with BL4's bacon........

I can't say for everyone, but with me it is just fine, ask away.

I had caramel rolls and coffee at my sister's house this morning along with a lot of talking and discussing .

I think I am going to make just cinnamon rolls next time.
might put some rasins in them,

BTW , I think I forgot to mention that I used the 2 new frying pans. they worked awesomely. not a bit of caramel stuck to the pan. I just flipped them over onto a cooling rack, and all of the caramel stayed with the rolls.

I have brooded chicks outside under the lean to when it was minus -20F . as long as you can keep the chicks' area warm say, 80F to 90F they will be fine. the surrounding temperature does not have any effect on them,

I have my bottle of Gorilla Glue in hot water to liquify it .
It was like molasses after leaving it out in the unheated shop .

I am going to try to finish the feeder today. or at least get the last two ends glued up.

With all of you doing chicken counts I decided to put my numbers together. 17 adults (2 roos) and 10 chicks growing out. Chicken tractor is underway for the littles and will eventually be for only the silkies. That will leave me with 19 large fowl, 2 banti and 6 silkie.

Afternoon to all....I would keep them inside for now GG, even if that wasn't the plan...sometimes you have to change your mind to be on the safe side.

Monthly meeting at Camp tonight. My month to prepare the meal....kinda busy today, and will be glad to get home to a tall cold one later today.

Welcome Mama, and everyone would love to help with any questions you have!

Later...bigz

They are hanging out in the laundry room just fine, so it really is not an issue these first couple weeks. I see Jim has brooded at a lower temperature so as things start to warm up a bit I may just slowly transition them to the garage during the day and pull the box back in at night. Spring will come eventually.

haha! Congrats on the chicks!!

I don't know if I have posted here before but if not, Hi from Oxford! We just had to go get another load of wood to keep our butts warm until spring decides it wants to make an appearance. My gardening bug is biting me big time and the ducks want their fresh Kale!
