Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good summery type day to you all,

I got a new spark plug for the rototiller and replaced all of the gas. I suspect there was a slug of water in the mix.
anyhow, it starts on first pull , now.

I just about have the 50 pound feeder perfected. I modified each of the two trays a little differently . we will see which works the best.
there wasn't really a lot of waste on the last 50 pounds I sent through it. but less is better..

I bought a new battery for Ollie, too. that will be going in before long.

when it cools off a little, I think I will run around the potato patch with the rototiller.

my back is going to be killing me tonight, but if I get all these things done, I won't care..

We have some meat birds, our first run of it. It's amazing to me how different they are from our layers. The layers were curious, but these meat birds just want to sit around, eat, and make fertilizer! Makes me feel less bad that I am eating them in a couple months. :)

they are chickens, with a different disposition., that's all.
wait until you try raising some white turkeys.

good Friday morning,
I am just about all cuppa'd up already.
I want to get out to the garden and do some rototilling while it is still cool.. Not hippie type cool, weather type cool.

I want to get my potatoes planted before Sunday.
I have to locate my hiller attachment. but I can still plant without it if I have to.

I am not getting out of incubating this spring as I had planned. Jim P brought me 30 guinea eggs . I can't say no to Jim. He is a great guy, and my source for straw bales when I need them,,

Think I am going to spend the rest of the morning laughing about the last two posts...

Another 800 sqft raked and it was interesting the difference between the two 400 foot plots. First plot, raked out 10-12 5 gallon buckets of quack roots, second plot was in the section that I had overseeded with oats two years ago. I only raked 2 buckets out of that section, and very little of it was quack, mostly damndalions. Two more sections to rake today and hopefully onions will get planted. Think I should be safe doing that now. Need to load up my wheelbarrow so I can help move dirt at the Monk garden too.

Chicken coop was finished in the dark, enough to put the hens in any way. Pop door slides, but still needs a handle on it. Planning to lock the birds in there for a week while we build the run, by then they should know that is where they go at night. Heading out to take some photos after I finish my coffee. May need some extra today, been awake since 4, senior had to be up to catch the bus to Chicago for his senior trip.

I just finished off the last bowl of chili. (my breakfast)

Had the potato patch all tilled by 7:30 AM today
it was cool enough to wear a light jacket, but I did work up a good sweat. finished the last half with just a Tee shirt on. (and pants).

I have the incubator plugged in and warming up for the 30 guinea eggs.

I have room for a couple hundred more eggs if anybody wants to bring some here.

going to change the tractor battery and then maybe cut down the last 3 soft maple trees along side of the garden.
I don't need their shade nor their roots sucking the moisture out of my corn patch

I am going to bring one of the turkey porches up into the yard and do some reinforcing on the doors. I am thinking of switching the 12 pullet chicks into that pen. .

ETA:
It took the incubator only about a half hour to warm up and steady out. I waited a couple of hours to add eggs, just to be sure.
holding at 100.22F, the temp will go down when I add water.

had company, so nothing more got done outside.

got a notice from wisc public svc. they are going to be trimming trees from the electric lines in our township. Asplundh is doing it. Hopefully I can get a load or two of wood chips. I have room for 100 loads if they want to dump them here. a farmer close to Wausau had a lot of loads dumped, then after a year or two he was selling "compost". he died a year or so ago, so that won't happen again.
