Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, It rained like crazy for awhile here about an hour ago. I am in the basement puter room so I don't know what is going on outside right now.

I am going searching for a good sized load of sawdust or shavings. also some straw.
I want to amend my potato patch.
I screwed up. I used fresh manure on the whole garden. then I found out that it is not good for potatoes.
I think I can salvage the crop by using the straw.

I have to get to a green house and get some tomato plants before there is no longer a good selection left.

My broody girl was sitting on 11 eggs - now there are only 9. Maybe she thought 11 kids was too much and she took some back?

She's in a pen by herself where the others can't lay eggs in her nest so she's the only one who could have taken them!

No rain here yet today and it's nice and pleasant for working outside.

I'm using bunny berries in the garden this year so I won't have to worry about burning anything.

So I'm debating on setting a few weasel boxes since j lost those meaties last week out of my tractor. I've never had a problem with something stealing a chicken out of my big coop and the chicken door is always open but it sure had no problem jumping into my tractor. I just don't know if putting traps and bait would attract more weasels and make last weeks happening more frequent? Not real sure what to do I guess.

Thanks for mentioning that Fair in WB.  Looks like something worth attending.

You're very welcome. We're very excited!

Chickendreams...need a new rooster? I am trying to rehome two of the teenagers I have. One is a gorgeous olive egger and the other is a beautiful Blue Andalusian...10-11 weeks old. Our vacation and rooster raising are interfering with each other so easier if we just move these two guys out! One other bird that I think is a girl but still not sure(olive egger) but these are the last two roosters to go.

Daerthen...great pic of your sweetie and hers!

I would love to see pics of them :) oh alas to have olive eggers. My olive egg from MPC didn't make it back during the Easter hatch. It's was 2nd or 3rd gen too. Ah.....

I'm not sure yet if we plan to get an interim boy or not. We do have several cockerals growing out three of which have a chance at staying but probably only two will stay we'll see. So I do have some boys to rehome or they will end up in the freezer. Most are only 8 weeks. Including an mpc EE, cuckoo Marans, and probably a white Rock. Maybe more.

Gotta thank Chickendreams for the wonderful silkie roo that my daughter has fallen in love with.

Aww thank you. :) Cotton is a good boy and we do love him! I'm just glad he found such a wonderful loving family especially BC we would have loved to keep him but for having too many cockerals and not enough silkie ladies for the two boys to share.

In other news!!! It's official! Our incubator has done great after DH2B added the replacement fan and we have our first chick out on day 20 right now. Lots more internal pips but now more external pips yet. Have more eggs going into lockdown with the 23 others tonight! :)

Also the coolerbator is built and almost calibrated! Maybe another day or two on that and it's ready!!!

good afternoon,

I got my tomato plants today.
I got 8 Amish canners and 4 beefsteaks
also picked up 8 pepper plants..

the rain quit and the sun is out.. I didn't get out to see how muddy the garden is.

I got a good lead on some sawdust; not too far from here.

I also ordered 2000 Serendipity corn seeds from Jung..
awesome good corn. been using it for lots of years.

the bator is holding steady at 99.96F to 99.99F. not going to mess with it for .5F ..

Slow going with the planting for this old gal! Beets are in and some row markers moved. I don't think the hubs gave himself enough room for the rototiller so I'm giving him an extra few inches. I'd hate to be hoeing all those rows all summer. Spuds are coming up nicely in spite of the dry weather. I'll have water back there as soon as the hubs gets the pump in the milk house going. Keep your fingers crossed that I don't have to run it all the way from the store to the garden. Hothouse starters are looking good so far.

Have a good night, all! Hope the storms aren't too loud for sleeping!

Got the first weed control till done on the garden today. 3 rows of beets up and looking good. Kohlrabi look awesome. 3 rows of carrots starting to be easy to tell apart from the dill. Got 25 tomato plants, 7 pepper plants, 13 hot peppers (wanted a variety for salsa and am too cheap to buy the bigger individuals), 7 broccoli and a row of cabbage all planted today. The beans that didn't get frozen are almost ready to start climbing the fence and the replanted ones are trying to peak through. Zucchini are coming up, strawberries are getting big but really really need rain. Radish are in full swing and the peas are almost ready for their fence. Still have room in the garden for more plants but not sure what to put in. Oh, the pumpkins were frozen but are replanted and the cukes are starting their first true leaves. Worked my tail off today and am very tired. Also got another load of composted sawdust in an area that our stupid GHD keeps running circles in. Got it all tilled and ready for grass seed if he will leave it alone long enough for it to grow. MIL got the flower beds weeded and the chickens got a feast. Need pain meds (getting old) and lots of sleep now. Night all!

Built a half-baked 3' x 10' garden bed last night and planted the tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers that a friend started for me. The things I started are still too pathetic to plant out (except for the ones that are dead).
