Good to hear that cs...wish you coulda been blessed with more of my favorite breed. Maybe more of those for you in the future.....nothing better than a chick raised by a broody or two....

Nice security fence...it would be nice here too.

That "security fence" has major repair needed to each of the gates due to Maremma damage

Thanks for the encouragement everyone. I got one of those Matis tillers, it works great and my garden is pretty much weed free. Seems like nothing is making. Have 4 broccoli plants and see nothing on them. Same with cauliflower. Peppers are doing good along with tomatoes. I guess it will be alot of salsa.
I agree with everyone else, you learn from your mistakes. We had a garden triple the size we do now, but it proved to be more than we needed. We've also realized how many and which plants to grow. Hubby planted 10 kohlrabi plants last year and we didn't eat one. I do need to find a good source for sweet potato slips, anyone?????????
Our broccoli and cauliflower aren't ready yet either, not the time for them yet. (Unless you got a head start)
Soil quality is highly important as well, IMO.

I woke up last night to what I thought was a tornado. There was damage to my duck pen as well as a tree down on the pig and horse fences. Oddly enough nobody was hurt because the ducks decided to sleep in a different pen last night.

Yep, while not funny, we have 4 of those little pesky ones running around here daily...it's the program in the woods , eh!

The kohlrabi freezes really well for addition to the soup of different kinds all winter long...I always have a knife handy to peal those and eat them raw....they are wonderful in a kohlrabi sandwich too! I plant the purple variety every year here!

Sandhillpreservation has sweet potato slips cs.

good morning,
got up at 3:3o today,
the plan for today is a lot of lawn mowing, I want to get started as soon as it gets light,
before it gets too hot.
(but not before I have a cuppa).

My wood chip pile is getting HUGE. I will have to take a picture of it..

My carb repair kit came in the mail yesterday, now I can put it in the McCullough weed whacker.
If it works out OK , I will order another one for the Murray garden tiller .
I ordered it from Amazon, it actually was sent from China.
It took just under 2 weeks to get here, but the price is way less than half of what it would cost if ordered from a local small engine repair shop

ETA:
Yah Cory, that storm is the one I sent to you.

I am all cuppa'd up and have the camera in my pocket. 67* F here, but it will warm up soon enough..

We ordered a carb off of Amazon, too for our Craftsman riding mower. First had a small engine shop take a look before and wasted $100 as they told us there was nothing wrong. Also ordered a new gas line filter. Did the job and that mower has been a champ! I hope yours works out. I cut the lawn yesterday even though it looked like a storm was threatening all afternoon.

Pretty sunrise this a.m.! Happy Friday to all

Hi Dutchess,

I just finished mowing . Lots of dried branches on the ground.
Black walnuts shed almost as bad as willows do..

I rebuilt the carb on the Homlite weed whacker. really nothing to it..
a new carb would cost about $15.oo for the McCullough, but the carb kit is only $3.9o. free shipping..
either way you gotta take the carb off so there is not much more labor involved. it gives me something to do in my spare time..

I took pictures of my wood chip piles.. will send them on a separate post ..

WOOD CHIP PILE

...

..

..the first two pictures are a panoramic from the West side
(from the driveway)..
the next two pictures and the view from the South end of the pile (from the lawn)

I put the riding lawn mower in for size comparison..

..

thats a pretty impressive pile o'chips Jim. Can't beat the price either! Just got the propane filled up and should probably start mowing. It's sure warm enough out, in sweating just thinking about it.

I wish I had a potato chip pile as big as those wood chip piles.

My well-meaning coworker was able to cancel the order for chicks for me. So I don't have to frantically put together a brooder in this heatwave. Poor kid, I keep telling her "thanks for thinking of me but DON'T GIVE ANIMALS AS GIFTS".
