Yep, glad you are going again Jim....kinda boring here lately with winter outside besides.

Thanks for your thoughts bl4....she is better than before, but it took the youth out of her for now.

My pullets have been laying all winter like they always do...buckeyes really are a nice Wisconsin liking breed.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do yet in regards to ordering some new genes....still thinking about it.

Yup, this is a chzhead thread. Most of us are from Wisc.

right now I have one rooster, 5 guineas, 2 geese and about 50 hens and pullets.

I got a call from a lady today, whe wants me to hatch some more eggs for her this spring.
I told her that I would start up one of the bators, if she could talk her hubby into doing some welding for me..
If I asked him to do it, he could say no. but if she orders him to do it, it is as good as done.
I want to make a hiller plow for the tractor. that would make digging potatoes much easier for Annie.

She asked me how many I could hatch .. I told her about 500 in two of the bators and over 200 in the other.
she has no intention of filling any of them , LOL

I let the puppies out into the snow this afternoon, they didn't seem to mind it at all.. I want to get them used to going into the guinea coop. then later on I can let them freerange a little longer each day..

good morning,

today is shampoo the carpet in the sun room day.

the small lean to caved in from the snow. the frame was very rotten so that was no big surprise. the roof is still intact so it will last until spring.
this summer I will tear it all down and rebuild it with the roof slanted from North to South instead of to the East.
I will pour a concrete floor in it . make the door wide enough to put the rider lawnmower in.

then, as long as I am at it, I will make a concrete pit right outside of the chicken coop window. voila, instant compost bin.. then I can just pitch the chit right out of the window into the bin.
I will make it wide enough for the tractor bucket to fit, then I can turn/mix it with the tractor, and when the time comes, I can scoop the poop and take it to where it is needed.
why didn't I think of this years ago ?

good afternoon,

I got the carpet shampooed .
Now I am going to move my plant "nursery" to that end of the sun room. there is a bigger table there, and it is closer to the kitchen for water. and I also have an access door to the outside.

Yeah, I get these ideas, and then when it is warm enough to do them, I get sidetracked .

when I die, this place will be all set up for someone to raise chickens and have a nice garden. I hope that someone comes along.. of course, I won't be here to see it. LOL

the puppies are doing great in the guinea coop.
they are always so happy to see me, probably because I am always bringing them some food..
they are almost completely weaned.
I had to go to a larger feed pan. their four heads didn't all fit into the small pan at the same time anymore..

I collected 45 eggs today. I must have missed more days than I realized..

there is no danger of the eggs freezing. I have two broodies that keeps them warm.

GS Kalib got called into work this afternoon, so I am not getting a lesson in how to send pictures with this new puter set-up.

WHen you do getting your lesson could you put up more puppy pictures? Pretty please? Wife said we should do meat rabbits starting this spring. I said something about it last year and it was a bad idea but now that she brought it up? Idea of the century. Unreal

Only 3 more days of this Winter month, then February will offer hints of Springtime I'm hoping.

The chickens seem ready for it and so am I.

Kalib just got home from work. he is eating now, I will catch him before he goes to bed. He usually works 12 hour shifts.

I let it get dark, darn !! I have to feed the puppies one more time today. I was watching TV and dozed off..
