Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

that's right about the milk replacer Brent.

I limped my p u truck the 20 miles to the fixit shop.
still had brakes when I got there. had to go thru Wausau
Schofield and Rothschild. hit almost every green light.

the chicken was dead this morning, was in the dog coop.

got 11 eggs today.

have 7 emails to answer about the boats on C List..

we keep getting phone calls from Allentown.
IDK who they are. if we answer there is nobody there.
they called at least 11 times yesterday. 6 or 7 times already today. it doesn't matter if we answer or not.
Annie called the phone company. they said we can't block the calls because it is a computer..
this has been going on for almost a week.
I told Annie to tell the phone company to discontinue our service if this persists.
no wonder people are switching to cell phones.

Got a cheap $40 incubator from F&F today, then come home and have a different hen sitting on the eggs. I took the ones not under her and brought them in to warm up. As the were at 40 degrees I wanted to bring them to room temp prior to putting them in the incubator. I've got it running and almost have everything where I want it. Hopefully this will work. I've never used an incubator before, so wish me luck. Any advise is welcome.

what brand?
fan?
turner?

tip: for initial temperature set up, do not have any water in the reservoirs.
then set the temp to 100.5F
when you add water the temp should drop about a degree.
thereafter, when the temp rises to 100.5F you will know that you have to add water.
and it should never go above 100.5F should it run out of water..

Jim- farm innovators, still air (I have it inside in a 70 degree room), no turner(that's me). I've got a sponge in there to hopefully keep the humidity more stable. Humidity and temp have been stable.

Yeah I went out this morning and no one was on the eggs, so all 29 eggs are now in the incubator.

I looked up your bator online.
there doesn't look like an egg holder/tray .
you can turn your eggs by setting the bator on a 2x4 or brick
on one edge. then switch the brick to the opposite side at turning time.

I assume there is a screen on the bottom where the eggs will set on to keep them out of the water ?

what temp and humidity are you at ?

Jim - it does have a screen that the eggs sit on, I did not opt for the fan or auto egg rotator. I do not have water in the bottom only in the sponge. My temp is hovering around 98-.5-99.5 with 58% humidity (last checked which was this morning when I left for work).

sounds good, and awaaaay we go !!
don't get too caught up about turning them,
the main reason for turning them is to keep the yolk from settling and getting attached
to the shell. even a slight josstle will prevent that.
I have hatched eggs without any turning , just to see if can be done. it can.

I just found out Mills Fleet Farm plans to build a 219,000 sq. ft. store in the southwest quadrant of I-94 and 60th St in Kenosha. Now I'll have 2 F&F!!!!!!

Yea, wish me luck on the hatch. I'll be home all weekend to monitor to temp and humidity. Also, not really nervous or worried about turning either. The dang hen moves them when getting on and off, so I figured that whenever I add water, I'll move 'em and that will be enough.

Funny note: The instructions said to sterilize the bator and eggs? I didn't see a reason for this as the eggs I've hatched before were under a broody and never sterile, nor was the hen! I could see if the bator had been used before, but geez.
