Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I have 2 kinds of slicer tomatoes - a Beefeater Hybrid and an Early boy. I gave my mom a couple Early Boys, one big beefeater and about 3 cups of grape/cherry tomato mix. She told me "that huge one was so good, the smaller ones - not so good, they didn't have much flavor and the little ones - they were gone right away!"
I feel bad that she no longer has a garden at her place. She loves garden fresh tomatoes. All the wild areas around their place are now 1-2 acre lots with houses on them and the deer have become so thick they eat everything that she plants - even deer proof plants. They ate every one of her daylily buds in one night, off right before the blooms opened up.

Yep, the deer numbers in your area are out of control. Years ago the harvest of the deer kept things in better control....deer fences are expensive and buying produce is a better option....I share all my extra produce and simply give it away....maybe next year I can help with some jetsetters….

Yep, nothing better than being prepared....makes the whole process way more fun bl4. Any special breeds you are looking for, or just layers of any breed?

I love Marans, bl4, very cool! I hope you can find what you're looking for!

I'm going crazy, waiting to get this farm! I'm so excited. Just have to get a small edit to the lease confirmed then send over the security deposit.

The land already comes with chooks--there are some Dorkings in residence that I can't wait to get started with. My daughter was there for fifteen minutes when we went to look over the property for the second time and declared the rooster to be named Morris.

They've also got some Anconas, Black Australorps, Araucanas, and Gold Star too, and my son super wants to get Jersey Giants. I'm going to have some work cut out for me if I want to run breeding programs, because currently they're one big (60-80!) happy family.

But first I have a huge Harry Potter party to run on Saturday for my son who just turned 11. I'm so stressed about it. Eek.

where is this farm located ?
If you said how many acres, I must have missed it.
I did some brush pile pick up today. mowed the grass under where they were piled.
then I mowed closely around the elderberry bush root where the town idiot chopped it down. It is growing back !! about a foot tall.
I am going to dig up roots from all around the edges and move them farther from the road.

It's in Marshall--ten acres.

I'm glad your elderberry is coming back! I found a really cool recipe for elderflower champagne that I'd love to try out sometime.

We're currently in an apartment complex and it's k-i-l-l-i-n-g us. And yep...they keep trimming our wildflowers and garlic down and spraying weed killer on our garden. I will be so happy to leave. I don't understand how some people can't see what's in front of them and end up damaging cultivated, important plants.
