Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am not good at identifying wood,
it does look like cedar.. but if it isn't cedar, it could be a conifer , like arbor vitae .. maybe spruce ?
it is not quarter sawn . looks like slabs of a rough uneven trunk.. very pretty..
the abundance of marks where small branches were , leaks me to believe some sort of fir,,
find an obscure spot inside and buff it a little with sand paper, just enough to get a whiff ..
to get the cedar smell inside of it, just toss in a small slab of cedar.. every once in while, rub it with sand paper to release the odor.. about once a year should do it..

I spent my birthday yesterday voting, renewing my drivers license (with our new address!), getting my water bottle stolen, being told we have close to a $600 deposit required for the energy company (OUCH), and then buying a lottery ticket. Capped off with sushi with my dude (we left for dinner after the kids went to bed--they got elegant homemade mac n cheese for dinner ) and overall it was a pretty nice day. He also got me a bottle of wine because he said when he went to the store to get me flowers they didn't have any of my favorites.

Soooooo close to moving!

And it's a gorgeous day out there!

Also I went into our crawl space today to get a bunch of tomatoes that have been slowly ripening to make carrot tomato soup for dinner...and several of them (all one weird type that accidentally bred together) had fermented in their skins. That was so weird. Never had that happen before. Maybe I should make sweet tomato champagne.

well, I thought today was going to be too cold to do anything outside.
I hauled the dumpster to the road with the tractor, and on the way back I dropped the back blade just because I was going that way.
I ended up spending a half hour back blading the driveway and filling in the pot holes..
then as long as the wood chip pile was right there next to the driveway, I rolled it over real good.. It is rotted down to a fine black dirt consistency ..
then I dragged the VIP 50cc scooter out and tried to start it.. no luck there.. I have to figure out how to remove the seat so I can get at the carburetor ..
waiting for bro Dave to arrive to take his deer stand down to the woods..

Went to the Amish neighbor and bought 10 bales of straw for the coops....he was only gonna sell me 7, but gave in and sold me 10. They are building a new house next to their nice new existing home….he was staining oak doors when I arrived...he said 27 oak interior doors total...close to 10k in doors alone.
Then home and out in the woods...cut a load of hickory...man that wood is heavy and hard on the wrists. Hope to get out hunting yet...I'll sleep good tonight.
Anyone need some leaves....LOL!

Did the Amish rebuild the house that burned down near you awhile back ??
That's a lot of doors.. Did he build them himself ?
the closest Amish to us are about 25 miles away.. closer to Athens.
I hauled Dave's tree stand across the dragged field for him. could have made it with the 4wd truck, but the tractor worked better.. would have been a real rough ride in a truck..
Brent, I will take all of your leaves.. just bag them up and bring them over ..LOL
the city of Wausau is picking up leaves.
they are baling them with a big tractor and baler.. IDK what they are going to do with them.. maybe sell the bales ??
If they are free or cheap enough, I might consider a p.up. load or two..
I hope tomorrow is as nice as today was. I want to take the carb off of the scooter..

White ground morning here today. Yep Jim they rebuilt a new house within a few months of the fire....they had a circus tent set up and all the women made meals for all the workers...unbelievable how many Amish worked to get it completed....really neat house with big covered porches on two levels...wish it was my house.
The other Amish by me that I purchased the straw from bought his oak doors from the lumber yard....both his huge houses have big covered porches on the ground floor only, but again really nice big houses.
that is a great idea to bale the leaves... be easier than raking them... :sick

well, let it snow. we have the areas to be plowed all cleared of the junk that gets deposited all summer.. tires, boards, carts, pails, tarps, cords, hoses, bags of potting soil, etc etc
I hope this back ache is worth it..

went out for a fish fry at noon.. it was haddock .. I thought it was walleye.. best fff I ever had in a restaurant .. that Mexican can really cook.. On Thursday we go there for the Pea soup.. just like my mother used to make.
I had vertigo today. it always happens when I over do it and my back gets to hurting..

29.5 #’s of cabbage shredded and in the crock!

Tomorrow: applesauce!

I think the trunk is pine; I could easily pick it up myself if it was not an awkward size. I added the cedar that you see.

Have to share how Steven the house roo made out.... the cats were intrigued.....
