Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Say, what weekend is the Bash again? Weekend before or after Memorial Day? I always forget..... thought I had it in my calendar....

It's the weekend after memorial day bl4.
Cold start here this morning again...sure will be nice when temps stay in the double digits overnight.
The deer are eating me out of house and home here on a daily basis now...they are hungry.

Thanks, for some reason it was not in my calendar.

Went to the bee club meeting tonight and learned all about commercial beekeeping from a guy outside of Reedsburg. Very interesting stuff!

Everyone here on cheeseheads is welcome to attend. We will be posting more about the annual event in the near future....mark your calendar for the weekend after memorial day it is held outside Clintonville at our 60 acre private Church Camp with facilities to stay the weekend for your camper, tent, or bunk rooms in the lodge, as well as just attending the main event Sat around till whenever...more info to come..... Just finished clearing the snow again at Camp....the facilities are used all Winter long.
Hens sure enjoy the sunshine this time of year. They love to lay in the sunshine for a little heat treatment.

My hens are eating their eggs and still refusing to go outside...
I will be going into the run and moving some snow around for them to see if that helps.

The other morning I was surprised to see our barn cat in the chicken coop - she is fairly new to us, but can only get into the coop through the pop door to the run. After I shooed her out - she was happy to go into the barn - I saw that there was a big tom cat sitting outside the pop door. He was in the chicken run and so was another buddy!! When I scared them off he climbed the fence and took off to the house across the street. The chcikens weren't fussing or anything - they went straight to eating even before I scared off the cat.

Do you think I need to worry about the tom cat's killing chickens? I am sure the neighbor is feeding them very well.

I would not worry about the cats if you have adult chickens. My cats and even the stray ones around here never hurt any chickens. I think they are lookin for Love!
My cats like to catch mice around and in the coops during decent weather, but not with 3 feet of snow on the ground here.....they are smart like chickens and don't venture out much now.

I am pretty sure that MizzKitty was the attraction. She is a young stray that was hanging around my sisters place most of the summer. Sis brought her over to our place this fall because they don't want a house cat and they don't have any outbuildings for the cat to live in. They called her "kitty" all summer, so she became MizzKitty and lives in the LongBranch Barn at our place.
