Lucky you wyo.… I never knew anyone that didn't need another building... you are a first to be able to buy something and also have a place to store it. I keep from buying some of the things I could use simply because I don't have enough storage room. I won't buy something that can't be kept out of the weather.

DH has to finish installing one more garage door in the machine shed - and then all our vehicles and tractors will be behind garage doors with remote controls!!
He has to finish removing a pigeon coop before that can happen, though. We will need to finish wrapping that building with house-wrap real soon, as that is going to be the only way to keep the birds from nesting in there. The grackle has a nest in the wall cavity in the horse stall area - they enter through a small knot hole in the buildings old, wood slat siding.

Hi, I'm new to WI! We just moved here over the summer and bought a house in Eagle. I've had chickens before (only for about a year or so) but I haven't gotten started here yet. We need to get a coop built (or bought, if we can snag a deal on craigslist) first. I'm trying to convince my husband to do a hoop coop, because they look relatively quick, easy, and inexpensive. And, quite frankly, I fear if he goes ahead and does some fancy shed style coop like he thinks he wants to it'll be years before he gets around to finishing and I want chickens nooow!! He's never built anything super elaborate before either.

Anyway, wonder if anyone has a hoop coop and how they work in the winter? Most the ones I see look pretty "airy" like they wouldn't offer a ton of protection from the elements. We have a lot of space and plan to put up some fencing around their area so they will have lots of space in the daytime so the coop would be just for night time/shelter not where they would be spending most their time. And I'd definitely want to do the corrugated roof style not just a tarp, haha. Does anyone have a hoop coop that provides adequate winter protection? Would love to see pics!

I never thought I would live near LG either..... the place we bought was a steal, and will only increase in value.

I plan on putting the nesting boxes under the window. That way the chooks can get a good view of the outdoors and I can easily collect the eggs. I want to put the roost on the opposite wall from the windows.

My 2nd and 3rd pullets started laying today! I now get 1 tan egg from my cochin and a green egg each from 2 EEs. Hope my other EE gives me a different color but any egg is fine with me.

We have 2 EE and I get a pretty blue egg from one, the other varies from pretty blue to light olive-ish green. We have 2 BO that lay pretty pink- light brown eggs & 2 barred rock that lay nice light brown. I am super happy with our egg colors I love to see what ur EE's look like & egg color. Thanks for sharing about ur eggs.

Another FFF is here already.....with Spring officially here, we decided to have ho-made potato salad to go with the baked cod....Suzie makes the best potato salad...in my opinion.
Looks like some of the frost in the ground is giving up to a melt....plenty of run off yet, but noticeable amounts are also starting to soak in....hooray for that.

Nothing more fun than enjoying your happy hens. Mine are begging to get out...but we still have 8" to 10" on the ground here.... that's the problem the woods provide with no sunlight melting like in open areas. But come warm summer days, the trees will be paying me back with shade and cool breezes....

Evening to you all! Glad some of you are starting to thaw out. Fortunately most of ours is gone.
We have a few more days left to collect maple sap and have boiled down 30 gallons so far. Not a great year so for for sugaring.
Just set a dozen eggs from TerriO with a hen from this year’s batch. She’s a newbie but is insisting on hatching her first clutch.
