Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hello,
Starting to get seed order here ready also. Been going out giving fresh water to chickens couple times a a day. Fresh water yesterday at 745 and went back out at 1030 and frozen over. The joys of winter cold weather. Collecting eggs before they freeze and crack.
Need to find a crossover sheet for seed plates, homework for today. Also looking into those plastic feed ports for chickens, but reading reviews seeing some people which have roosters with large combs have hard time eating from them. Not so sure my brahma roosters will be able to eat from them. Need to do something to stop the waste.

My chickens are wasting tons of food to! Its ridiculous im looking for a better feeder to. Also water is freezing ever 30 minutes so im put there every hour for new water.
Left door open today, chickens can go get snow if needed. Will go back out about 2 fresh water than water again at dusk. Put feed in feeder for morning.
I use a hanging feeder and leave on floor, wrong to begin with, if the mess gets to big I just slow down on feeding they will clean it up some. After a point for now I sweep and get some dirt and throw it out for traction. The wild bird population comes over a picks thru it.

looks like these plastic feeders be good for hens and chickens with small combs, anyone else have any knowledge of these?

I have a little giant 30 lb feeder they dont make a huge mess but they sti spill lots of food. I have never used those feeders but have seen them, i would think they work.

I made a feeder from a five gal bucket that worked pretty good.
I didn't get much waste at all.
I could put any kind of feed in it and the chickens could eat
it all untiil it was empty. even ground oats and corn..
I think I still have it out there. easy to make.
a five gal pail, a 2x6 block of wood, and a horse grain feeder
from tsc or fleet/farm. it looks like an oil drain pan,
a few screws and washers and a large dia drill bit. about 1 1/4 inch.
it is similar to what you see online, only it is not the same..

Someday if you run across the pale take a picture and post it.
I bought 20 dollars worth Amazon. 6 of the plastic port hole feeders, gonna try it. I have extra 5 gall pales.
See if the brahma rooster can gets its head in there. Hes a big boy.
Warmer anyway chickens headed outside. Left door open this morning see if chickens like stretch their legs and go cruising around.
Egg production staying steady.
Stay warm everyone.

lets see if I can talk you through building the feeder.
cut a 2x6 block so it is square. 5 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches.
center it on the bottom of the 5 gal pail.
put washers on screws and screw through bottom of
bucket into the block of wood. one screw at each corner
and a couple towards the center of the block..
then drill some holes around the block of wood
through bottom of pail. about six 1 1/4" holes.
now drill about six similar holes equally spaced
around the side of the pail about 3 inches from the
bottom edge of the pail.
turn pail upside down and place the feeder pan
centered on the block of wood. use screws with washers
into the block of wood spaced like you did from inside
the pail.
you are done. put some feed in it and see how
you like it..

Whats the feeder pan look like?

that wind blowing past the house causes
a vacuum. it sucks air out of every tiny
crack.
I have had nothing but walk in coops.
If I had to do it over, I would have built
a coop with an overhead door so I could
put the tractor bucket inside to clean the
coop out. no wheelbarrows..
Sometimes great ideas come from reading something somewhere
As is this.
I have double doors on my 8x10 coop and my tractor bucket will fit inside perfectly
THANKS
