Ilovemychicks. as I read it, you froze 60 gallons of kernel corn ?
the cheapest we found around here is $5.oo/doz.
one place charges $7.oo/doz. she told my wife there
was no discount on volumn. she said they were selling
it ''dirt cheap'' as it was..

I know the freezer bags were 8 oz and by time we were done there was 30 bags. I didnt count how many dozen we got but it was a lot.

OK, you said you used 8 qt bags in your post. lol
I kind of figured you meant oz.
back when we raised our own corn, we would
do 50 pints.. DD would help us and we would
split the bounty.

We got 2” of rain Wednesdays from the storm. Hope it helps relieve the stress in our trees - so many leaves are changing too early due to the drought.

in chicken news, Divine, (formerly Cordelia), has been squawking a lot more lately, plus her comb and wattles are becoming more red. I placed a fake egg on a nesting pad in one of the nesting boxes this week. Hope she figures it out when it’s time !

Bear came back again today. It’s a juvenile, probably about 150#, big head. We leave the door to the run open when the flock is out. He’s gotten in and dragged out the feeder twice now. He ran over to a massive white pine across from the run. Bruce ran out when I called and scared him off. This is the second time this has happened since Monday.

I’ve sprayed ammonia around the area, plus left an old boom box on when we’re gone, tuned to a talk station. The flock is locked up when we’re gone, Right now we can’t afford an electric fence. What else can we do, other than calling to have a trap set up? There’s one already set up in our area, but doesn’t seem to have caught anything.

Two of the girls were in the run when he wandered in, and now they’re both just losing their minds, running around squawking and blowing out their feathers. What can we do?

be in his path of retreat.. bang on pots and pans
rattle a cow bell.. surprise him..

Im lucky i dont have to deal with bears. Just lots of coyotes and a friend of ours that passed recently said she saw a wolf at her farm.

Sounds like the bear is a young male. I'm a bear hunter so I know what I would do. They make wonderful sausage.
She is a warm one outside today.
