Sorry for the long MIA everyone! This is a picture taken last year with a stray pigeon who decided to move in with Flash and Zombie Chick. It took a few weeks but we finally got the numbers off the band and 4 or 5 phone calls later, found its owner. We named her Penny the Pigeon. She will remain with that name. She got lost in this area once before and I guess his mom lives on the other side of Whitewater. You can't really see Pixie but she is in the top cage.
Nice to see someone else here from whitewater, I had a pigeon land on our driveway in the spring, so I took some bird seed out to it and it was pecking around but getting closer to the road and then it got hit by a dump truck. It to had a bands on its legs.

Shorter days has really set the molt in action here. Plenty of feathers to clean up every morning where they roost. Nice sunny day here and only collected 2 eggs from 17 girls. Time for them to take a needed break. Special treats are given now to improve feather growth.
Plenty of seasonal chores to deal with. The chimney needs swept as well as the smoke pipes to be inspected and replaced where needed inside.

Stay Safe ... bigz

Molting, something I've never quite figured out. As in when this happens. I seem to see feathers at different times around here.
Mine, hopefully are starting to grow their feathers back from Henry picking and the hens finishing up, so some bare spots on their backs. Now I've been seeing feathers growing back, I hope.
I had more eggs last winter than I did during the heat of this summer. Lately I've been getting 7-9 from my 10 hens now that it started to cool down. (although 92 & 94 the last two days!)
Eddie is a story in himself! Seems to be afraid of the hens, but does mate a bit. He doesn't want to come out of the coop if he can see them from the pop door, and as soon as I let them out into the yard, he comes out--weird!
I had to put him into the coop/roost for 4/5 days, Now he definitely does not trust being near me. :)
He goes in by himself now.
I'm just letting him adjust, he's only been here a week.
