Did the hen hatch the eggs? Just the hen has not laid since June?I could use some advice. Schatze, our Midnight Majestry Maran, stopped laying in June, when the babies were introduced. Since then, we lost four of the original girls to predators.
This week, she started acting off. Usually the first one out to eat in the morning, she started to wander off by herself, and just sit. She had a good appetite, still wasn’t laying. Usually she'd squat and let me pick her up and love on her, but not anymore. I couldn’t check on her feet for bumblefoot, or check for anything internal. She’s started her first molt, and I wondered if her behavior was related to that.
Any ideas what could cause this behavior? I’m just stumped!
She hasn’t laid an egg since early June. We don’t have a rooster, so no hatching. Forgot to mention she’s 15 months old now.Did the hen hatch the eggs? Just the hen has not laid since June?
Sometimes hens which are picked on will wander on their own. Sometimes with the group stay a little off to the side.
I have 4 younger hens 3 or 4 months they are not part of the group yet. They are their own flock. Once bigger they will intergrate with the mature hens
DH has been cleaning either the basement or the garage for two days as he's running out of room for his stuff and I refused to give up my one shelf to his ten. The bad thing is, he keeps coming to me with a pile of stuff asking me what I want to do with it.Nice!

That yellow crusty stuff...did it stink really badly? If so, that's vent gleet (yeast infection). What I see actually looks like an egg might have broken while she was laying it.She hasn’t laid an egg since early June. We don’t have a rooster, so no hatching. No one picks on her; she’s pretty mellow, and generally hangs with the other two girls her age.
Checked her crop, it’s empty. Her crown is floppy, and she moves slower than the other girls, but still pecks and scratches and eats. Noticed her hind end had some dried yellowish poop on it, which I cleared off. I cleaned the waterer and added some ACV to kill off any internal critters. Fingers crossed!
Maybe my wife and DH can rent a warehouse and save all their stuff. Be partners and then can rent 2 brothers dumpster service to clean it all out when the time comes.DH has been cleaning either the basement or the garage for two days as he's running out of room for his stuff and I refused to give up my one shelf to his ten. Congrats!!!Before I got my new hens, I cleaned out the chicken coop, and put all new bedding down & new bedding in the nest boxes.
Until yesterday, the nest box bedding stayed flat, but I noticed yesterday that they were all dished out so I figured someone was getting ready.
And lo and behold, today, I found an olive egg.![]()
