Dr Ha Ha, I see you got yourself a paid subscribtion! Yay, you!

I already got 6 eggs this morning. And another girl still on the nest. Must be givin' in!

Zohbug that's neat about the kids and the chicks. I hope that you can realize your dream. Living in the country is more work but so much more rewarding and real. The first thing on my list was to get the top of the nest boxes cleaned off and new bedding applied. I had help. Lefty flew up and was right there inspecting my progress and chastising me for missing a piece. Or else she was protecting her poo. While I was getting it down to the wood I had 2 hens walking along the rails picking out a nest to lay in. They were literally shoving me out of the way. I guess they were a little shy about laying in front of Peaches. I ended up with 10 eggs as usual. I was busy learning roo talk while working in the coop. He has a whole different vocabulary. It's really cool! He has been crowing up a storm establishing his territory. Seems to be keeping the polar bears away. I was bringing in wheelbarrow loads of wood into the house and I'd see him scratching around and I'd say Peaches and he'd stand up straight and listen. Then I'd say What a good boy! And he'd crow! I did it 3 times with the same results. I could believe it. I was laughing so hard! I think he likes his new home. I owe you all an apology for hogging up the thread but I can't help it it's just too good not share. At least I think so. Obviously! Progress being made, more to do! Hope your enjoying your day at least 1/10th as much as I am!

fordmommy; Yes I did I've been kicking it around for quite awhile and I figured with all the help that the site has given me it was the least I could do. Don't like being labeled like that though makes me feel uppity. Glad to hear the girls are back on track! Think your girls were like mine. I gotta do this I can't hold it in any longer.

Originally had thoughts about keeping them penned up for awhile but realized the snow was a natural barrier, works great!

No one was late! My birthday is TODAY! But I have a funny story...when I got on here this morning around 7:30 the birthday banner thingy wasnt up for BYC...then I posted about my birthday and when I got home I saw in the announcement place: Happy Birthday BYC! I thought it was just a birthday wish from BYC...clicked on the lin and realized that I share my birthday with BYC!!! Isnt that cool? I did pretend that all the wishes were for me....until I got bac to this board and see that there are a TON of cool wishes for me too! Thanks everyone!!! I feel like there is a better family here than my real one sometimes! I did get some carnations from my dh and a box of chocolates tat are made here (really yummy) My son is making me an angel food cake with chocolate whipped cream frosting--mmmm my favorite! The only thing that would have made my birthday better would have been if Charlie would have made it...he succumbed to his stump infection this afternoon...

T.O. sorry to hear about Charlie! That's sad! But you seem to be in good spirits and am glad you got well wishes on your B'day from so many people. Hope it helps! I went out and started the Jeep for L to go to work 5:30-8 and about 5 minutes later walked out with her to kiss her goodbye and put the kids to bed. Here was Peaches half way to the house about 20 feet from the coop walking in the snow covered driveway. I said oh Peaches what are you doing are you lonely? The girls were already snuggling on their fresh bedding. It was 5 o'clock. I started toward him and he turned around and headed into the run and then into the coop. He is still used to staying up late and no one to party with. I closed up the run and went inside turned on the light and picked him up and told him it was bed time. Darn party animals! I toyed with the idea of using him for my avatar but decided out of respect for Bigzio I won't. I have a great pic of Brownie looking into the camera, that was my original choice instead. Bare with me I'll calm down in time, but I'm having such a good time!

So, does anybody buy feed straight from a mill? Where? And what do they charge?

I'm looking to buy a little more in-bulk.

I was trying to find organic, soy-free feed for my chickens which I couldn't find in any stores so ended up buying some from the farmer I buy soy-free eggs from as he has it specially made. I found out which mill he buys it from (though he didn't tell me himself) and they only sell the organic soy-free for layers "off the shelf" though they do make the organic, soy-free starter every now and then by request. They do have organic and conventional with soy beans, of course and they do ship. "My" farmer buys in massive quantities, so I'm assuming they give him a very good price. They quoted me $12 for a 50# bag of the organic, soy-free layer.
