Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

fordmommy; hope your baby recovers OK it sounds as if she will be just fine with time. At least you found it and are making her feel better. It's having a hard time trying to decide whether to rain or snow. Going to be a skating rink either way. Tis the season. I have to bring in wood today and will have to pick through it for the driest I've got. Still have a nas-T mess to clean up on the porch. Waiting till the stove quits dripping instead of doing it several times. Ya that's it. I see the barometer has dropped like a rock. Will try firing it again today. Only 7 eggs yesterday that's the least I've gotten since they started laying. But on the up side one of the unnamed hens has gone broody. Even though I take away all the eggs. Her name is now Mama. I was changing out the nest boxes and she just stands in one. I had to take her out to change the bedding and as soon as I was done she went right back in there. She comes out to eat and drink then right back in. Standing there looking around with a sad little expression on her beak. Do you think I should let her set? Will it affect her psycologically if I don't? I worry, it's my job. I was thinking that if I raise more chickens I'd need more space then thought of turning the 2 stall machine shed into a coop. But then what would I do with all the stuff in there?

Back to needing more buildings. Maybe I'll just raise a few more chicks, say 5. The coop is big enough for that. I need/want more chickens! But I do want to keep it on a personal level. OK I'm better now. Mellow Mellow

I got a broody too. At first I was taking her ot of the nesting box every time I went out there. She's a good girl. Never tries to bite like some of the other girls. Now...I think I'll let her stay if she wants. I'll only take her out once in the morning and once in the evening and then make sure she doesn't sleep in there. She's a Blue Splash Orp. Gorgous girl! Curly feathers. Very warm underneath. Big girl too. I was worned by gandbcook when I bought them that she probably would go broody on me. I do wish I had some eggies to put under her. She really would be a good mama.

"Big's" happier today. The tripleantiboitic must help. Her gash is not pink around the edges today and it's softened up. So that must make it feel better alone. Lots of bawk bawking from her today and her tail is up. She's practically smiling.

Rain. Rain. Rain here. 39 degrees. 2" of water on my trails to the coop and dog kennel and ice underneath.

I'll have to wait til Wednesday to get some sun.

That's good news! I want to see pics of your BSO! Please Please! 8 eggs so far and 2 hens in the nests. One was mama. Feel bad for her I reached in and was petting her and she was talking nice and soft. Come on give me some guidance people. Help Help I'm stupid! I don't like the idea of hatching out this time of year. But it could be done. OK Ok calm down. I'll just let it go. There'll be more broodies. Snowing now again. Too early for spring I guess. Darn it!

how about some BCM eggs, for your broody, I've got few extra

Yes! Yes! I would take them! When you want me to come get them? Tomorrow?

PM me if you are serious!

BCC; Thank you so very much for the offer, that's very nice of you! But being somewhat mad I want to play with the gentics I've got. MMWWAAAHAHA! You people are soo bad making me think bad naughty thoughts. If anyone out there wants any of my chicks when they arrive [sometime] your more than welcome to them N/C. But delivery is $1,000,000,000 a mile. Nah I'd meet half way. But they'd have to go when their little before I get attached like when their still in the shell. And before they start peeping. OK you just get fertile eggs! Have to ask a guy at work tomorrow about a bator, he said he has one but don't know any details. I didn't ask when he told me for a reason but now I can't remember what it was. Hmmm? I'm begining to think that it's not all the chickens fault for becoming like this.

I did number two on BCC list this weekend. Went up to Rhinelander looking for snow, I wanted to take my step-daughter snowmobling for the first time. Trails were rough but we went. Had a great weekend. Had a sledding competion with the cottage next to us. We won of course. Tucker was a great little guy up there. He is turning out to be a great dog. Right now he is laying in the office getting cleaned by the cat.

Hope all had a good weekend and stayed dry. Looking forward to spring. Here are a couple pictures of Tucker. Take care everyone!

He looks cool! I'm glad you found a new companion. I went a year without a dog once. My dog disappeared right before we bought our first house. I suppect that someone shot her. Otherwise she WOULD have come home. Someone tried to steal her once. I had gone around the neighborhood looking for her because she didn't come home and found her at someones house. They wouldn't let me in but I heard her barking in a back room. I was waiting for DBF to come home and that afternoon, she came back home. I let it go but that was the first place I went when she disappeared. But those people had moved a year ago or so.

Then we waited until my oldest was almost 2. We looked around for something that looked like my Sheba. She was a Chow mix that had like rotwiller markings on her head and legs, with long fuzzy black fur, a curly tail and a pure purple tongue. And her ears would purk up when she was excited. But no such luck.

We ended up getting our Buddie, our border collie mix, from a rescue shelter out of Toma. He was about 9 months old the vet suppects. The second best dog I ever had. Sheba was the best! Now Buddie is about 9 years old and still acts like a puppy. If it wasn't for him, I would have never known about that chicken killing dog.

Here's a pic of Buddie. He was playing around in the snow, acting like a puppy. He loves the snow. See the smile on his face!

Every morning when I let him out, the first thing he does is plop down in the snow and roll around. It's like he takes a bath in it. It's very funny.

The second pic is our pure breed Border Collie, Rosco. I rescued him from some people who's daughter was in my son's kindergarten class. They were too overwelmed with him, their other pets, 2 kids and one on the way, in an upstairs 2 bedroom apartment.

So I told the mom that I would give her what she paid for him and she agreed. He was 4 months when we got him. He listens very well and is a pleaser.
