Good morning every one! Pretty chilly in the coop today! I just finished reading that huge worming thread and I think I will attempt this soon. I am going to build up my egg supply a bit first. Figures, I decide to do it during my "get more egg customers" phase! Has anyone used Wazine and did you toss eggs for two weeks? The thread also says to use the pour on Ivermectin (this will be a blast--NOT) and to pull eggs for two weeks after that! That it a whole month of no eggs! Well, I gotta get to work...cant wait for Spring! Terri O

Well we're at day 15 for our 4 test eggs and upon quickly candling them- all 4 are pretty much dark with a good size air pocket, we can see veins and movement if we watched close enough.

Sunday will be day 18 and lockdown and hopfully we get some chicks! We are excited to see what they will look like!

4-5 days left for me. I have tried candling a couple. I do see a dark mass of some kind I think. The eggs are very dark eggs from Black Copper Marans. It could be that my eyes are playing tricks on me though, because I want it so bad. Still

The sun is still here. I was so happy to see it when I woke up!

Terri O, I read a thread that you were in talking about baby chicks and crickets. That's funny, because since that dog attack, I've been treating my girls once a week with crickets I've been getting at our local pet store. They LOVE buggies!!!!

They just hear a plastic bag and go nuts!

I think they're gone for good.

It's really amazing how much the power the sun has already. The steam is rolling off the south side of the roof and dripping like crazy. Yipee... I love spring. Bring it on!

fordmommy that's a shame we lost 2 friends from the great white north.
I wish them nothing but the best....may their flocks provide them with nothing but joy, and happiness!

Terri O , I pretty much live in my insulated coveralls all fall and winter. I have one blue common pair and a black canvas heavy pair for the really cold weather. It's nice being comfortable in the cold.

DrH...Pretty soon the count-down will be in the 80's. It will go fast now. I just hate standing on concrete for extended periods of time. My back aches just thinking about it.

I might have to fire up the weber today. I could go for a venzun burger on the grill, with grilled onions, sharp cheese, and a toasted bun. I think we all know what the wash will be, eh!

If you were going to start out w/ten layers, and wanted some variety (both egg and chicken wise) what would you go with initially? I've got my broofer ready and my coop is laid out and I'm collecting wood for it, so I'd like to have chicks by mid-March. Any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way, what a beautiful day today. Every day like this now is one more day towards spring. Keep it coming.

annarie; Liked the seeing eye duck! Makes me wonder if the other duck is getting any SS disability? YES Bigz 80's, 70's..... I often wonder what it'll be like. Being able to get more things done around here and have time to play with the chickens and go fishin. Sounds like a dream. Sorry to all of you with many years ahead of you. But IT'S YOUR TURN!

Ya the crete has taken it's toll. Fortunately only knee surgery. Everyone that's retired has said how much better they feel after getting off of it. It's a good thing we live so far apart cause I might be temped to drop by bout supper time, often! Sounds great! Enjoy your labors and skill. Hope everyone that has eggs incubating by whatever method I wish you luck! Hope all goes well and you have fun. I'll be trying my hand at it this spring. Glad we didn't get all the snow that you all got. Maybe 3 on top of the 2 from the last snowfall. A lot of laps to blow out my place. Makes me work harder on my new plow for the tractor. Will get some more measurements for the final cuts on the material this weekend. Most of the small parts are done. Once the main blade is done then on to the lifting parts. Couple of more weeks of noon hour work maybe. You can ask any guy out there or girls that a tractor is way more funner than a stupid blower. Starting to think the tractor is going to be the weakest part of the whole thing. She's a good LiL' mule! Have a good evening!

BBCB; Love your avatar! I thought remodeling an existing shed into a coop would take me 2 weeks it took almost 2 months of weekends and evenings. I ran into some unexpected problems with the building but the worst was the painting. I cannot stress enough not to buy paint at Menards! I put a good brand primer on [not from Menards] and after 3 coats of barn red paint it still was showing primer through. I was PO'D. Paid $23/gallon. Went to Ace and spent the same amount and it covered the white primer in one coat. Don't use cheap paint of any kind the old addage holds true you get what you pay for. Unless it's from Menards! It's a lot of work and you want to protect your investment. Hope it helps.

Dr Ha Ha, I LOVE "Legend" paint from Fleet Farm. IMO it's the best. Most of the time one coat. BUT.....they don't have a awesome selection of colors. For that I like True Value. But I don't like their paint.

BigBadCryBabyI LOVE my Black Australope. Great personality. Pretty good layer too. And Barred Rocks are very enquisitive. They like to know what's all going on. They are neat to watch IMO. I like RIR too. She's kinda like that too. My dark Blue Laced Red Wyandotte is really layed back. She reminds me of a "wise woman". I love her colors too. She's my 12lb chicken. They are dual purpose along with the BA and BR. I like EEs for the difference. There are a ton of different shades and they can have different colored eggs. Usually mellow too. I like Orps but they tend to go broody. I have one now sitting on eggs. I wouldn't want all my flock to be orps for sure. Hope this helps in some way.
