BBCB-- Oh yay~~! You have silkies too, eh? And you live near me I think! What colors? I'm raising some buffs and also hoping to geta few splash one of these days. As far as introducing the silkies... I would grab the Hen that is the current "top banana" in the group and bring her out to play with the skilies. The other birds may accept the silkies better when they see the "top banana" is friendly with the silkies or even just simply see her coming back into the run with them. If you have space in the run there shouldn't be too much of a problem. I have heard more of a "single" silky being picked on than a small group. Hope that helps

Fordmommy--- congrats on the chicks sold but so very sad for your friend losing her fav roo. That's so sad.

I turned a ripe ole' 31yrs old yesterday and was in for the shock of my life when my father showed up at my house with......brace for it..... ELEVEN egg-layin' chickens, Four odd black chickens that look like those 1950's "heckle and Jeckle" cartoon crows and THREE rabbits as a birthday gift. I certainly did not want to seem ungrateful but I don't even have the coop done yet. oy. So basically that dinner scene from Annie Hall ensued with my brother yelling at my father, father yelling at my brother, the handy men joined in and I'm standing there in shock.

My dad stormed off with the RIR hens and announced he was disowning me for being ungrateful and I was left with the crow-chickens and three rabbits. Out of the corner of my eye I see one of the rabbits drilling away on the other one like the end of times is coming and I realize that there will be more darn rabbits in a month. ARRRHHHHHH! I spent an hour calling my dad to calm him down and eventually managed to get everyone to still attend dinner at my house. oy

Ha MTF!!!!

Oy Vey!

Well, looks like you've got something to keep you off the streets for awhile...

Whereabouts in SE Wisconsin are you? You need a RIR roo about 5 weeks old for those RR hens of yours???

Glad your chicks are still doing well H&R! Mine are fine too. I had a guy come over today to look at my stuff and he said that the 4 freebie roos were production reds or crosses of. Definitely the 2 I have an the other a cross. He said his looked just lke that. Some Ameracaunas hey? He was looking for Silkies (which I have none of) but he did say that he would trade one of his Phoenix roos for one of mine! COOL! I told him all about our little group and hopefully he will come and check us out. THey are the nicest family! 2 boys-13 or so and 5.
I got a bunch done today...but like Beckyschicks my legs are pretty tired from walking around the horsefair yesterday...we didnt get home until midnight...getting out of the parking lot took an hour and 45 mins! The show jumping was a bit boring...I guess when you have watched your own kid do it for a while it is now so exciting any more! SUre was nice to meet Becky and her family though!
Annarie--we will be camping with our hourses at Castle Rock Trails over Mothers' Day. I sure hope it is warmer there by then! ICE on the ponds? BBRRRR!!! I guess we will have to remember the winter b lankets for the horses and the snuggies for ourselves!
Well, I have to go out and put away the animals and then I am going to bed! I am exhausted! Have a great night everyone! TErri O

My good little Murry the silkie/cochin cross is hatching her eggs! I have one out and 6 to go!! I'm like a new mom. When I went down to feed she got up to show me that she had a new addition. God am I beaming! I gave her extra treats and lots of love. She let me take a look but i didn't want to mess with it too much. It's black and cream colored. Can't wait till the morning to see how many more we have. Wish her luck!

BBCB- I'm in Mequon. I made my dad return the RIR to the farmer he got them from because my coop isn't ready just yet. Still building it.... slowly but surely. LOL. Does your neighbor have anymore silkie chicks available? How are you enjoying yours?

Congrats on your chiklets becky! Is this her first one?

Yeah it's her's and my first time hatching. Only one out so far. I'm (not) patiently waiting for the rest. Heard some peeping from a couple of other eggs. Hopefully soon. Keep you fingers crossed.
